If I were to guess, Beamer or someone on his team is desperate after striking out in the portal on Tight Ends and likely pulling a string with someone in Smith camp who didn't want him to leave South Carolina to cause a mess here. Syracuse can't just simply cut ties on someone they invested in with Michael Smith, especially since it doesn't seem like him going back to South Carolina is in his best interest. And also he signed with Syracuse.
