TOTAL: 475 from 423 = 1.123 381 from 375 = 1.016
We have taken greater advantage of turnovers in 15 of 31 games and are 13-2 in those games.
MANUFACTURED POSSESSIONS
(One team’s rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)
Syracuse Opponents
Pre-Conf: 487 + -186 = 673 (51.8) 500 + 151 = 651 ((50.1)
Conference: 616 + 237 = 853 (47.4) 638 + 229 = 867 (48.2)
TOTAL: 1103 + 423 = 1526 (49.2) 1138 +380 = 1518 (49.0)
Syracuse had manufactured more possessions in 15 of 31 games (with 1 even) and are 14-1 in those games.
TOTAL POSSESSIONS
(field goal attempts – offensive rebounds + turnovers plus 47.5% of free throws attempted: overtimes excluded so we can chart the possessions in 40 minute games)
Syracuse Opponents
Pre-Conf: 857 (65.9) 858 (66.0) Total: 1715 (131.9)
Conference: 1158 (64.3) 1160 (64.4) Total: 2318 (128.8)
TOTAL: 2015 (65.0) 2018 (65.1) Total: 4033 (130.1)
Syracuse is 9-5 in games that had 130 possessions, 10-7 in the ones that were under that.
Comments: We’ve been out-rebounded in our last 5 games after winning the boards in 16 of the previous 26. The same goes for Manufactured Possessions, although we were 15-11 in prior games. Our formula is to make up for a deficit in rebounding with an advantage in turnovers but in these last five games we are -56 in rebounds and only +5 in turnovers. And 4 of those five teams scored more points off our turnover than we did off theirs. The opposition in those five games got 84 points off turnovers: we got 63. They got 63 second chance points – but we only got 37. So not only were we having a hard time getting possession of the ball but we weren’t doing as much with it when we got it. It’s interesting that a high possession game, (more than our average of 130 for both opponents per game) doesn’t seem to help us that much: 9-5 vs. 10-7 in slower paced games. The days when we were a ‘running’ team seem to be gone.

Conference: 1229 in 1174 = 1.047 1197 in 1176 = 1.018
TOTAL: 2176 in 2042 = 1.066 2031 in 2046 = 0.993
The winning team always wins this stat so we are 19-12 in points per possession.
QUARTERLY BREAKS
(The score after every ten minute segment of the game.)
Pre-Conf: 212-182, 208-182, 256-238, 266-219 OT: 5-13 Average:16-14, 16-14, 20-18, 20-17 OT: 5-13
Conference: 299-246, 284-291, 299-288, 323-360 OT: 24-17 Average: 17-14, 16-16, 17-16, 18-20 OT: 12-8.5
TOTAL: 511-428, 492-473, 555-526, 589-579 OT: 29-30 Average: 16-14, 16-15, 18-17, 19-19 OT: 10-10
We’ve won 64 of 124 quarters with 9 even. We’ve scored 15 or more in 85 quarters and held the opposition under that 51 times.
Comments: The importance of two point field goals is under-scored by the fact that we are 13-0 when we have a higher shooting percentage on them and 6-12 when we don’t. The splits for three point shooting percentage are 16-6 and 3-6, not as strong. From the first Boston College game through the Georgia Tech game we didn’t give up a fast break point to six consecutive opponents. We’ve given up 79 in the eight games since. We always do better with starter points than bench points but the last two games have been amazing: Our starters scored 111 points to 48 but our bench scored 32 points to 105. People dismiss what I call the “Twilight Zone” between the arc and the paint but in those last 5 games we have 10 points from there: our opposition has 44. We got out-scored by 25 points in those 5 games and lost 4 of them. Assists as a stat continues to be over-rated: We’ve won that stat in 8 games but won 19 of them.

Conference: 337 from 309 = 1.091 326 from 304 = 1.072
TOTAL: 622 from 569 = 1.093 523 from 502 = 1.042
Syracuse has gone to the line more time per foul than the other team 19 times in 31 games and are 11-8 in those games.
Comments: There may have been individual games with dubious officiating and some dubious calls in otherwise well-officiated games but we can hardly claim we got screwed by the refs on the season: They were more likely to call fouls on the other teams than us, (as measured by two point attemp0ts and points in the paint, which usually produce more fouls), and more likely to us on the line than them.
INDIVIDUALS
NET POINTS
Michael Gbinije has led us in net points 15 times, Tyler Lydon and Tyler Roberson, 7 times, Mal Richardson 3 times and DaJuan Coleman and Trevor Cooney 1 time each.

(ODOG: points plus assists)

Mal Richardson has sat us down 17 times, Michael Gbinije 14 times, Tyler Roberson 11 times, Trevor Cooney 10 times, DaJuan Coleman 8 times and Tyler Lydon 2 times, (he’s always coming off the bench). We’ve been sat down by 21 treys, 13 lay-ups, 10 two point jumpers and 4 dunks. The average time elapsed has been 1 minute, 17 seconds.
TACO BELL MVP
(Who gets us to 70 points)
Total: 4,440 seconds /17 games=261 seconds = 4:21 left. (counting the OT as negative time)
Trevor Cooney has gotten us tacos 6 times, Michael Gbinije3 times, Tyler Lydon and Mal Richardson Tyler Roberson twice, DaJuan Coleman and Franklin Howard once each.
“MY MAN”
(most minutes played in each game)
Trevor Cooney and Michael Gbinije have each played the most minutes 15 times, Mal Richardson 3 times and Tyler Roberson once (there have been three ties). Gbinije and Cooney, of course, are our two seniors.
Comments: Michael Gbinije is obviously the leader of the team and our “go-to” guy. I’m very optimistic about next year but we’ll be trading in Gbinije, a fifth year senior for Tyus Battle, a freshmen with similar skills- but a freshman. We’ll also lose Trevor Cooney but I believe Mal Richardson will be an upgrade. I think the name of Tyler Lydon will be much more prominent on these lists next year as our best all-round player.

TOTAL POSSESSIONS
(field goal attempts – offensive rebounds + turnovers plus 47.5% of free throws attempted: overtimes excluded so we can chart the possessions in 40 minute games)

Syracuse has gone to the line more time per foul than the other team 19 times in 31 games and are 11-8 in those games.
Comments: There may have been individual games with dubious officiating and some dubious calls in otherwise well-officiated games but we can hardly claim we got screwed by the refs on the season: They were more likely to call fouls on the other teams than us, (as measured by two point attemp0ts and points in the paint, which usually produce more fouls), and more likely to us on the line than them.
INDIVIDUALS
