Our formula is to make up for a deficit in rebounding with an advantage in turnovers but in these last five games we are -56 in rebounds and only +5 in turnovers. And 4 of those five teams scored more points off our turnover than we did off theirs. The opposition in those five games got 84 points off turnovers: we got 63. They got 63 second chance points – but we only got 37. So not only were we having a hard time getting possession of the ball but we weren’t doing as much with it when we got it. It’s interesting that a high possession game, (more than our average of 130 for both opponents per game) doesn’t seem to help us that much: 9-5 vs. 10-7 in slower paced games. The days when we were a ‘running’ team seem to be gone. From the first Boston College game through the Georgia Tech game we didn’t give up a fast break point to six consecutive opponents. We’ve given up 79 in the eight games since. We always do better with starter points than bench points but the last two games have been amazing: Our starters scored 111 points to 48 but our bench scored 32 points to 105.
