Took the top 100 players in the country by receiving TD. Then looked up their school's offensive ranking

Teams with a TE in the top 100 in receiving touchdowns this year have an average yards per game ranking of 86. 5 out of 8 of those schools ranked 90 or worse

The three best are FSU, Miami, and Massachusetts

Florida State 44
Miami (Florida) 48
Massachusetts 54
Iowa State 91
Virginia Tech 97
Minnesota 108
Kent State 119
Florida International 123

2013, you had guys like Jace Amaro and Austin Sefarian Jenkins catching a lot of TD in good offenses

If you have guys like that, by all means, play them

The fact Lester wants to run the Stanford offense and we don't have Andrew Luck, Cody Fleener or Zack Ertz was enough for me to want to wish Scott Shafer the best in his future endeavors. Stanford's offense sucks and it relyed on the best QB prospect since Peyton Manning to run as that well. They also have one of the best OLs in college football.

We are screwed next year unless the D plays out of its mind.

Where did you see that he wants to run Stanford's offense?

A healthy Hunt could make improvements.

the idea that we are screwed without watching a series with Lester is kinda unfair

He says he wants to run a multiple flexible offense and likes the 12 personnel grouping using 2 tight ends and one running back similar to The New England Patriots when they Had Hernandez and Gronk. This type of offense puts pressure on a defense by trying to force it into more base packages and taking advantage of a big tight end flexed out on a smaller nickel back, safety or a slower line backer. You can run or pass from this grouping without tipping your hand to the defense based on a personnel grouping.

My response to this is that Lester never said the tight ends would be catching touchdown passes, only that they would be a bigger part of the offense.

In fact, when you watch Lester's offense this year, he made a concerted effort to RUN the ball in the red zone, which is exactly what successful red zone teams do effectively. Watch the one touchdown drive Cuse had against BC and you will see a great example of this--however not the only moments that he made attempts at the ground game when under the 25

yes I took TE tds as a proxy for their importance to the passing offense. We could always just line up another lineman at TE

I'll check red zone stats sometime

He also said some call what he runs a version of the spread.

So basically we know he wants to use two TE's more, favors a mix of pass and run, likes Hunts ability to run, also wishes he had Nassib to run his system...

I dunno. Could be awful, Millhouse of horrors or could be alright. Who knows? I will withhold judgement until 3-4 games are played next season. If you want to get all riled up 9 months before the season, be my guest.

(Side note: did you see FSU called Dunkelberger? Could be just what this offense needs...)

If your wide receivers aren't catching touchdowns, its nice to have someone who can. Lester has shown a willingness to throw jump balls in the end zone. I feel like a 6'4-6'6 bigger body te/wr hybrid is better in this case since a db won't be able to bump them off their spot. More likely for a td or at the very least a PI vs a pick in that scenario. Hell we may even throw more than 2 post routes a game with a receiver that safeties aren't going to be so willing to hit.

I busted out laughing when I read that on the recruiting board, oh the irony.

Um, why? Info came from a pretty reliable source.
It would be hilarious if the comments from a recruit caused so much hand wringing about what Lester will do with the offense next year, with an underlying implication from our resident spread advocates that they'd rather not get those kind of recruits and would instead go for all WR's... and then none less than FSU came in and took him away.
