One interesting thing in that article (and may play into why Gross mentioned it) is maybe the ACC sticks with an 8 game conference schedule, so teams have a better shot at getting 7 home games each season. Some logistics to work out with that though. Most schools could probably survive without the crossover game, but one in particular would need to happen (FSU-Miami).
But it's going to be very hard to schedule 7 home games each year in a 9 game conference schedule environment. As I mentioned the other day, 5 of your 6 OOC games over the course of 2 years would need to be home games. Which means 1 relatively attractive game, and then two of the MAC (never a return trip) and 1AA nature.
