Interesting he mentions the ACC TV Deal as terrible as well....

The point of the article is don’t lock up your inventory for an insanely long deal.
As the fees will go up if you have a good product.

The ACC deal being terrible is the only reason we got into the ACC.

The only way they could renegotiate was to expand.

Now ESPN only put its muscle behind ACCN because the ACC extended the deal from 2032 to 2036.

It gave ESPN rights fees longer and Gave the ACC a Network.

Does that mean more expansion coming if they can bring more eyeballs to the deal? I'm asking not knowing the ins and outs of these deals?

I feel like a school like Syracuse, which got the biggest tv viewership numbers in the tourney, should start thinking about how you maximize that with football and basketball.

i wish in a weird way that the ACC took over the big east hoops and ran both of those.

No more expansion.
The ACC had to go from 12 to 14.

To renegotiate a terrible long term deal by Swofford.
They added Pitt and Syracuse so ESPN would pay more.
The conference had to tack on 4 more uears to deal to give ESPN something in the negotiations.
Then to get the ACCN the conference gave ESPN another 4 years.

There won’t be anymore expansion unless ND jumped from NBC to ESPN.

Here is a write up on the deal the ACC signed in 2010 that really put the conference behind the 8 ball.

.

ACC football was awful and the market was at a low point. It was the worst possible time to sign a long term deal. In retrospect, the league would have been wise to sign a short team deal worth less per year and bided its time, betting that when the short term contract ended, things would be better.

Every media deal Swofford made was a bad one. He might have been good at some things but in terms of negotiating contracts and generating revenue, he was completely incompetent. Thank God he is finally gone.
