They were not trained military personnel but they stood in that Village Green and said no to the British army. Were they brave men and boys? Have always thought so. Were they scared? I have always thought so. The British army fired, overwhelmed and killed a number of them. Then the British army continued on to Concord Mass and ran into another group of untrained men and boys, about 500 more Minutemen and fired on them in open warfare...but were turned back. The British army were turned back by a ragtag group of brave Americans. They all shared one thing in common, no more, enough is enough. The incursion at Concord was the start of the Revolutionary War. The first birth pains for the United States of America! The resistance by men and boys was not done in a moment of braggadocio or as a lark. They were standing up to an army that was world renowned as the most efficient, bloody and valorous in the world at that time. In the spirit of 1775 many of you brave men and women have laid your lives on the line to keep America free. Today each and everyone of us remember and thank you for your bravery and sacrifice to this great country that we all love. Without you where would we be? Enjoy this day and be proud of yourselves.
