Let's run that one - Seahawks first TD.

It's a QB read option x3. Wilson fakes to Lynch, keeps it, takes two steps, sees his wideout is open after the CB bails to support the run and he dumps it 10 yards to a wide open guy. That's a play i'd be okay running.

I'll post it, after it appears on youtube

I remember that play, the CB bit hard on the run fake. Thing is even if he didn't and went with the WR there was nobody home to stop the QB from running. Well executed and I suspect was the perfect call for the defensive scheme.

Sounds like a modern version of an option pass play we used to run in the early '90's with Marvin Graves.

Mathews was actually in great position to make a play, Shields just bit and HHCD made a terrible effort at tackling. If Shields stays home and wilson keeps it its either a loss or gain of a yard with a possible fumble with Clay making that tackle.

Yep, used to start out looking like the option, Graves would get maybe 5-10 yards toward the short side (if I recall) and then dump it to a guy on the same sideline, 7-10 yards downfield.

Don't remember Graves running that play, but Qadry Ismael tweeted something about SU using that play back when he was there.

First play on the highlight
It wouldn't have been exactly the same one as the Seahawks. It looks more like a traditional option running parallel to the line of scrimmage. We didn't run it a ton, but I think I remember Gedney getting a catch or two off of it. I think we also threw deep off of it now and then.

Edit: I just reread your comment. Did you mean we didn't run it when Graves was here but did when Ismail was here? They played together all but Graves' senior year.

i remember the option pass. Where we'd run the freeze option, take it down the line then drop back - like the play we opened with against penn state in the dome in the early 90's, but not running at the wide out and really pressing the corner to make a decision.

Gotcha. I don't know if the intent was to make the corner make a choice. I only remember us passing out of it. When we passed short (and I only remember it being once or twice), I only remember it going to Gedney, not any of the WR's.

It actually inspired me to adapt a play in one of the first Madden games, '91 maybe. I used the Eagles so I could be Randal Cunningham. It was a pass play (because they had no option plays) where the running back went out to the flat. At the snap, I'd run along the line of scrimmage and depending what I saw I'd keep it, throw it to the RB or throw it deep. Man, was I an inventive kid.

The option pass with McNabb used to be a thing of beauty...

I happen to know for fact that this play is in the arsenal...
Glad to hear it. Really wish we'd employ more play action. Way, way underutilized IMO.
