more than any other conference and we play 4 of them out of the other 5 as we are 19th.

We end the year with the current no.4 team B.C. and no.10 Pitt. that both average over 300 yards a piece.

We might lead the nation in pass defense by the time ACC play is over....who would have thought that.;)

What else is scary is that both Pitt and B.C. are in the top 11 for total defense....we are 28th

The thing I like about BC is they seem to accept the fact that they don't have world class athleticism but play to their strengths, run game, run the qb this year and play hard nosed football. Interesting?

pitt as usual makes no sense to me. they held BC to 142 yards on the ground (276 total). should've beaten iowa but did nothing on offense in the second half.

i wonder if pitt can score. that game might be another ugly 14-13 nailbiter

BC scored 20 on pitt with 276 yards of offense. GRRRR we just had 15,000 yards and scored 20

You mean Pasqualoni/Deleone ball.

Apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

if bc ever gets mcnabb harrison johnson, let's hope addazio keeps playing this way

I don't love it but you have to play with what talent you have. I prefer to call it Marrone ball. :)

Which, the shotgun spread with Paulus, the two years of pro style power I with Nassib in his first two years, or year three Nassib with a very Manning style no huddle, shotgun count the guys in the box and go with a stretch, counter run game or play action off of that look and a handful of packaged plays on offense?

Pro style power was fine. Really liked 2012 but I don't think you can do that without an experienced qb and wr's.

Why not, Boise managed to do it year in and year out with different guys.

Yes, but they seemed to have solid QB play. When they didn't the program fell off. They had a quite a few NFL receivers that blew through there too and running backs and o line for that matter and it seemed as if their OC's were being hired away every year as well. The one kid they had for 4 years was as good a college qb as you will find. Kellen Moore I believe? kid was lights out. Fun to watch for sure but when Peterson had them rolling they had some serious talent there. NFL talent

I am for whatever works and I also think that GMC system can work if we can just improve red zone and eliminate a few wasted plays a game. People get all whacked out by the bubble but Hunt should check out of it 3 out of 4 times he runs it. The blocking is attrocious as well on the play., its a glorified hand off. The athleticism is fine at wr, people waiting for elite athletes to come to Syracuse will be waiting a long long time. It ain't happening ( I know you know that GO) We have a very very good recruiting staff, I just don't know why people can't get it through their heads that we will never rake in a plethora of 4 star recruits, it will not happen

I REPEAT IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. recruit, red shirt, develop and play for 4 years. Repeat, recruit, red shirt, develop and play 4 years...IF they want elite speed at wr, find the speed first, make him a football player second because if the kid is that fast and a football player, guess what, we ain't getting him. Staff has done a nice job taking calculated risks on certain kids to upgrade.

You have to adapt to the talent on your team. Everyone and their brother are going after qb's that can move well so the competition for them is steep. The problem with adapting to the talent is that you are teaching different schemes than you were with the previous year(s). To me, a great OC can recognize, adapt, teach and implement this.

there are so many teams in college football, you can always find one example that works for any offense you want to think of.

some of the more meatheaded among us put stanford on a pedestal from time to time

i think it all comes down to whether you want a conventional offense for the defense to practice against or a more effective offense that doesn't prepare your defense as well

for me, i think defense is much more of a crapshoot and less reliant on schemes for a non factory - no rhyme or reason to when you're good or bad. so just go with a proven offense that succeeds at multiple places (air raid, meyer or rrod spread option) and hope for the best on defense. thankfully there are enough ACC teams that can't get out of their own way that they won't make us pay too much with their offenses and the great teams in the ACC will always score on us anyway. not as much risk to going further out there on offense

Like I said, I don't think GMC offense is that far off, I just think waiting for talent is never the answer. Who has time for that? Waiting a year or so for the system to become 2nd nature for those running it, I can buy that. Case in point guys like Leach, he hasn't recruited elite talent, just drilled the system home to the kids in the program. Just using a general example there, I don't want to hear about his defense or their loss to Rutgers, etc etc. My point is, his team runs his system, with average Pac 12 talent and scores points.

That is why, lets see where the offense is at the end of the year but waiting for more SPEED so to speak, never happens at Syracuse. People were stomping up and down 2 months ago, everyone on the team can run, improved speed, cant believe the talent at WR these days etc. 1 game into it, we need more speed, no playmakers! Who doesn't. I hate the talent nonsense. Syracuse is about where they will always be for recruiting, certainly better than they were but in my opinion pretty close to the ceiling.

agree the playmakers stuff is a bit much. all we need is a guy who can score 80 yard tds by himself!

80 yard td's with no defenders. I could have run that in while drinking a beer and mixing a cocktail at the same time, stopped for 2-3 seconds puked and then run it in. Just horrendous
