Coach Autry’s radio show is on Thursdays, (Wednesdays until the Dino Babers Show ends) from 7-8:30PM on ESPN Radio in Syracuse, which is AM1200 or FM 97.7 on the dial. The show is at Carrabba's Italian Grill at 550 Towne Drive, Fayetteville, NY. The first hour, hosted by Matt Park, the Voice of the Orange, is on their general network. They are again doing a third half hour segment on Twitch: I think I will save myself some time by posting the main show and linking the Twitch segment the next day when it shows up on You-Tube.

Their schedule: AmeriCU Adrian Autry Radio Show Starts Nov. 14 - Syracuse University Athletics

You can call into the show locally at 315-424-8599 or nationally at 1-888-746-2873. For Gomez’s portion, use 315-424-8599. Or you can submit questions from this page:
Submit a Question! - Syracuse University Athletics The choice, finally is the “Adrian Autry Show” or the “Fran Brown Show”!
Or on Twitter at x.com or Twitter (@CuseLearfield) using the hashtag #AskAutry.

The show can be heard in Syracuse on FM 99.5. It’s sometimes simulcast on AM 1200 or FM 97.7. You can also get it on: TuneIn | Free Internet Radio | Live News, Sports, Music, Audiobooks, and Podcasts If not, try: https://cuse.com/watch?Live=6575&type=Live

MY QUESTIONS/COMMENTS

“Coach, where is our perimeter game? Chis Bell has missed 12 threes in a row. Lucas Taylor hit 35% last year. This year he’s 1 for 13. Choppa Moore scored 24 points against the #1 team in the country and is 2 for 13 since then. After 10 games, we’re shooting 27% as a team.”

The Twitch Segment:

There won’t be one until January.

COACH AUTRY
(I have, in some instances, put together statements from different parts of the broadcast on the same subject. The quotes may not be verbatim –they are from my scribbled notes. I have not knowingly changed the meaning.)

The answers to my questions:

Q1 – “We haven’t shot the ball well. They are guarding our shooters tight and that allows out forwards and Eddie to have a lot of success.” [Shouldn’t their success open things up for the shooters?] “Our shooters don’t get a ton of good looks because we’re scoring inside.” Matt said that, in recent games, we’re hitting 70% of our two point field goals. [We hit 50% vs. Georgetown.] AA: “We’ve scored out points per possession. Chris and Elijah will make their fair share of shots.” Matt admitted to being astonished when Chris missed 5 straight free throws. Coach made the same admission, but, “I’m very confident he’ll work his way out if it”. Matt said that he’d detected “a bit of hesitation” in Moore’s play recently and declared that Chris “will never be one of those 2 for 12 guys. If he misses his first three, there won’t be a 5th or a 6th.” [Is that good?] Matt stressed “interconnectedness: Spacing is only as good as your shot-makers.” AA: Chris still gets spacing. When the ball finds his hand, someone is always in his face.” [Really?] “Jayre has hit 70% his last three games.” [True; 19 for 27, 70.4%] “Eddie had his best game since Texas. Missing JJ has been the difference in our last two losses. JC is finding his footing.’ Matt noted that his scoring has increased for four games in a row. AA: “That’s not his calling. He understands the game, When Chris finds his shot, JC will be a big reason why. If JC’s scoring a lot, that’s probably not a good thing.

Q2 – (no Twitch segment until January)

Matt opened the show by noting that the non-conference season is coming to an end with Maryland on Saturday and Bucknell a week later. It’s not like it’s getting easier. We want to get on the right side of what we want to be and continue to build.

Against Georgetown, “We did a good job of getting back into the game and taking the lead. We didn’t do what we need to do to win, especially boxing out for rebounds.”

Maryland “is talented and balanced. Derik Queen is one of the best freshmen in the country. They push the tempo and crate a lot of turnovers, kind of like a Rick Pitino team. [Ut-Oh!] They have a big front court, a skilled front court. They are a very complete team.

On Lampkin: Matt said we haven’t seen a “throw it in and back ‘em down center in a while.” AA: “He also helps the guards to keep the ball moving the way Marek used to do for us. He can attract the ball. He goes after it.”

Michael from Manlius called in with his weekly inspirational comment. “We will live to fight another day. Everything is interdependent. If you fall down I’ll help you up and if I fall down, you’ll help me up.” [But if my man beats me, will you come over to help?]

Matt: What confidence do you have that this team is getting better? AA: “I d see improvement. We are getting better even if we don’t get the results we want. The Milwaukee Bucks started out 2-8 and just won the NBA Cup. Our last two losses, we had a chance to win. Things are fixable We have improved and we’re not there yet. You see steady improvement Things they weren’t getting right are more right. Our guys are a mature group and are really working hard. When I took this job, I knew the job was different/ I knew I wanted to push ourselves in the non-conference to prepare for the conference season. The team has to get together, put their heads down, not let the process beat you up. I want them to look forward to the next game with excitement and confidence. That’s what we need.

Eddie had his best game since Texas so apparently Red didn't watch the last 7-8 minutes of the game where he was a disaster on the defensive end and left him in the game ugh.

Eddie needs to get subbed just before TV timeouts to steal extra time during the game.

SWC, hope are you feeling better.

I've had a cold since the Miami game: sniffles, coughing but no sore throat, slightly dyspeptic stomach, occasional mild fevers. The doctors has determined what it isn't, (Covid, Flu, Pneumonia, RSV, etc.), but not what it is. I suggested to him from what I read on the internet it might be rhinitis, and he said that was a possibility. If so they don't know the cause or treatment. I just have to outlast it and that can take a while.

How is he pushing them in the non-conference season? With the brutal schedule?

What we're learning is that the NCAA committee, (if they ever again become relevant to SU basketball), pays more attention to the results of those early games than they do to the conference season.
