The issue is that a 2 team playoff is clearly inadequate for a 123 team division. And I'm a guy who thinks there are[I] too many[/I]  teams in other playoffs. You want two things: every legitimate national championship contender that isn't on probation should be in your tournament and as few teams as possible that aren't. You can debate what a legitimate contender is but there are certainly going to be more than two of them. Even if you think the team that won is the best, it doesn't mean that there weren't other teams as good or better than the team they were playing.
