Amen. Brian Higgins and Adam Terry excoriated the B1G crew for that series of bogus flags during the post-game (TK99). After sheepishly receiving Shiano's 5 minute hissyfit (including profanity) with no call, the side judge mysteriously decided to throw a flag on Dino for saying, "you've got to be kidding me". Those were his exact words, according to Dino himself. Unbelievable. If that's a bench flag, then every sideline in college football would be 2 feet deep in laundry. It's is just one example of the blatant double-standard enforced in this game, along with the other phantom calls (Taj's non-fumble, the "hold" on Benson, etc). But as horrible as the officiating was, at the end of the day we handed them the game because of fumbles, pass drops, poor offensive execution, a problem at right guard and poor play calling. Rutgers sealed the win in the 4th by overpowering us at the LOS on both sides of the ball. They knew we had to throw and our D was tired - after a superior game. But it really frosts my cookie that before Rutty's first score in the 3rd in a 0-0 game, we stopped them deep in our own territory on 3rd/25, only to have the B1G crew basically make up 2 fouls on the play to gift them a first down on the 11. Maybe that's what Shiano meant when he told the refs to "make it right". Those calls got me off my seat along with many others in my section (117) - who were all eye witnesses to Shiano's sideline histrionics. Surprised there isn't more mention of it here ... but obviously there are other concerns on our end. I hope the next time we invite a B1G team into the Dome, the league sends a more professional officiating crew.
