"Simply put, the Big Ten West is the worst division in the Power 5 conferences right now, and yes, I know the ACC Coastal exists. The seven teams in the division (Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin) have all shown some flaws early this season. Through two weeks the division has a combined record of 10-4, which might not seem all that terrible on its own, but I haven't shown you who the opponents have been just yet.

I'll do that now: Eastern Illinois (W), Youngstown State (W), Northern Iowa (W), Western Michigan (W), Florida Atlantic (W), California (L), LSU (L), Western Kentucky (W), McNeese State (W), Central Michigan (L), Western Illinois (W), Northern Illinois (L), Middle Tennessee (W) and Ball State (W)."

I didn't watch the Central Michigan/Purdue game but holy hell, who would have predicted that outcome?

Purdue reeks. Saying that, we will have our hands full with CMU. Their running back is a tank.

I can't get over that Fornelli ripped into our conference in comparison when Fla St wins the championship last year and we beat Minnesota in a bowl game. Hard to have any credibility when you shoot yourself in the foot right out of the starting gate.

after seeing the parity early this season I can see why Slive wants more money separation from the smaller schools by forming a new division

Money separation is right. It's not about wins and loses. It's about brand, name recognition and money. Two years in a row now BYU has ripped Texas. But if they were each on TV next weekend, which gets higher TV ratings? Which one would draw a larger crowd? Which one would TV want more? Which one would sell more merchandise? The big schools don't want to share with the schools that can't bring money to them, even if they can beat them on the field at times.

1. It was a bad day for the Big Ten
It started with Nebraska. The Cornhuskers were almost shocked by FCS school McNeese State, but thanks to Ameer Abdullah, they escaped unscathed. Except for maybe their egos a little bit. That set off a rough day in Big Ten country. Purdue lost to Central Michigan, Northwestern lost to Northern Illinois, Iowa barely beat Ball State, and Western Kentucky was with Illinois until the fourth quarter. But the most shocking losses came at the top of the league when conference powers Michigan, No. 6 Michigan State and No. 7 Ohio State all toppled over.
The Spartans played a respectable game and could still find their way back to the College Football Playoff with a quality season — who knows. The Wolverines were shutout for the first time since 1984, which is probably not the way they wanted to end the final installment of their rivalry with No. 15 Notre Dame. Then in the school’s first-ever meeting with Virginia Tech, Ohio State flopped at home. It was Urban Meyer’s first loss at home as the Buckeyes head coach.

And the hits just keep on coming...

The Big Ten's Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
