When tired to sign up for another membership, I was told I couldn't as my E-mail address was already on their records: I needed to use another E-mail address, which i don't have. I contacted newspaper Archives.com, which rusn the site and after several exchanges of E-mails with an apathetic tech support guy, I was told the problem must be on my end: either with my computer or the internet. I asked what kind of problem with my computer would cause this and got no response. I checked out some similar services that are on the net that they did not have the extensive coverage of the Post Standard and Herald Journal that my project required. I checked with the county library and foudn they ahd gotten rid of their microfilmed files because "that stuff is on the internet now". As a result my series on the Bold Brave Men of Archibald came to an end short of it's goal. I had not yet finished the 1957 season and I wanted to at least got through 1959 and possibly beyond. A week ago I decided to give it another try. Same result. I could log on and request a page but they wanted me to sign up for another year, (by now my membership had expired) and then would not let me do so because my E-mail was already "in use". This time instead of sending E-mails, i called their tech support number and got told that they don't allow you to re-use your E-mail address in the on-line sign up to avoid multiple billing. But she could sign me up for a new membership over the phone. She did and I went to the site and requested a page relating to the 1957 SU-Holy Cross game and I got it with no problems. I'm thus back on the Archive and the "Bold Brave Men of Archbold" series is back on as well. We are early in a new era in SU football- the Dino Babers era. 68 years ago, another era began- the Ben Schwartzwalder Era, during which SU rose from its greatest depths to its greatest heights, and then all the way back down again. It was the era into which I was born, the one I remember from my youth. I can still recall listening to the games on the radio and waiting until Tuesday to see the grainy black and white films of the previous Saturday’s games on the local news. The music played over these highlights was not “Down, Down the Field”. It was “The Saltine Warrior”. My Dad thought he knew the beginning of it and would sing “The Saltine Warrior was a bold, brave man”. I later found that the line was “bold, bad, man”.
