Did you watch the FSU game? The Seminoles did not play the zone exclusively, but when they did, UConn struggled, big time. Yeah, he's 4/7 on the year in 3 games. Napier has been good from 3 this year, but in Atlantis he had some questionable shot selections, I counted 3 or 4 times in the FSU+UCF games where he dribbled past half court, and fired a 28 footer with 28 seconds left on the shot clock. Besides Napier and Lamb no one has made more than 8 3's for UConn all year; and besides those 2 no one is shooting better 33% from deep (jury still out on Boat). Olander can hit that mid-range J if he's open. Fab + BMK have been really good this year about getting to that shot, moreso than last year. However, Tyler Olander is not gonna beat us by making a foul line jumper. His passing this year hasn't been to great either; so I love our chances with how active our zone has been to disrupt that. Smith and Daniels combined are putting up 9.5ppg, 7rpg, about 40% from the field and 25% from 3 (they also average about 40mpg between the 2 of them). I understand Smith's role is more of a defensive stopper, but the dude has regressed from last year. Daniels has talent, but he can't dribble and can't create his own shot. And so far, Napier and Boatright haven't really got involved in the offense too much. Hell, Daniels hasn't had more than 6 points in a game since 11/17. Roscoe's last 5 games? 4/11, 9pts. Drummond obviously is as talented as anyone in the nation. But is extremely raw right now (not to Fab's extent last yaer though). All of his baskets yesterday came on layups and dunks, which he should get vs. teams like Holy Cross. How will he do when he sees real big men? He won't be able to rely on pure athleticism vs. a team like Syracuse, he's gonna have to show some post moves, which I have yet to see so far.
