Is a useful crutch against bad to mediocre competition vs smaller guards ... but it’s laughably ineffective against better teams with bigger players ..

I don’t understand why it takes him getting swatted / ripped ten times before he stops

He’s overconfident or his dad is implementing an insane strategy.

A lot of times that move does work, but it sure didn't tonight. The OP's point is well taken.

This is an added dimension to his game this year. Against smaller teams he successfully can penetrate and shoot over smaller opponents. With taller defenders he hasn't got it mastered enough yet to become effective.

That said, when he, or other players for that matter, penetrate there is no relief valve set, so once the offensive player penetrates, he has no one to kick to because no one is working to get open for him to pass to. Often times the top of the key is wide open, while the corners are very crowded, resulting in bad passes and turnovers.

I like that Buddy continues to develop his game, it shows what a worker the kid is. However if thi is going to be a continued part of the offense, which it should be, the rest of the team needs to realize that when someone penetrates, they need to get open for the pass that is going to come. Create a play or two that one player swings to the top of the key for a wide open, straight to the basket three that will have a high percentage to go in.

Once he sheds a few lbs , we’ll all be eating crow

We really need to rename this 'the Jake' - since he loves it so much. And it allows us to use it for JG3 and AG.

At other high level programs like Kentucky or Kansas the coach's kid comes off the bench for like ten minutes as "glue guy." At Syracuse it's a story if he "only" plays 37 minutes.

Have you seen those two goobers? 10 minutes was a lot for them

Another reason there's on one open is that unless he's able to overpower the guy guarding him, no one on the other team has to help.

And he never (OK) rarely, (OK), rarely successfully passes out which makes others static. Drive and pass a few times.

Either he is being asked to do too much or he thinks he can do more than he can against the quality teams SU use to compete with on an equal footing and beat, but not always.

I do not see anyone telling him to stop so that leads me to suspect I may know the answer
