Two things:

First, I think it's pretty cool that UNC and MichSt will tip it off on the deck of an air craft carrier. It will be similar to watching the NHL Winter Classic game when they play in an outdoor football stadium on New Year's Day. I'm looking forward to the unusual setting.

Second, did Syracuse get any residuals for the use of the name "Carrier Classic"? Seems to me that we were the original Carrier Classic before the tourney went defunct about a decade ago. I always loved that 4 game tourney. I think we won every one but one or two (did St Joe's beat us once?).

I remember one year we lost to Ohio in the first round of the Carrier Classic. Forcing us to play in the conselation game of our own tournament. Ouch.

Is it really being played outside? are they expecting wind to be a factor in this at all? I have a feeling that with some bad weather, or just some wind that picks up at inopportune times, this will end up being one of the biggest mistakes by the NCAA.

not sure about the wind, but it will probably be cold as heck.

That was my freshman year.

Losing to Eastern Michigan in 1996 I still hear about from my EMU-alum father. In fact, he's shown me the damn trophy in their arena.

Yeah, who in the business office forgot to Trademark the Carrier Classic. Used to love the old Carrier Classic, those were the days when SU could whip Lemoyne.

at the 2:14 mark

According to the ESPN link, the weather forecast isn't favorable. They may have to move the game below deck... apparently there's enough room for the game and all the spectators. :noidea:

I know its a really big ship ... but does it rock? a little at least in choppy water? That would be weird if the players started getting seasick...

I've asked this before. I wondered if SU ever trademarked that name...

Aircraft carriers don't sway in the waves. Unless the waves are huge.

I recall Earl Boykins was on that team...and there were a couple other good players...some guy though hit a bullshit bank shot three down the stretch that gave them the win.
