MY QUESTIONS/COMMENTS Coach, Doug Gottlieb, when asked about Syracuse said “They haven’t played anybody yet”. He praised Tom Izzo for scheduling tough teams early to prepare his team for March. An article by Chris Vannini says true road games are disappearing from basketball because of what he claims, (he doesn’t use quotes) was called by Izzo “The Boeheim Theory”: http://www.mlive.com/spartans/index.ssf/2012/01/where_have_all_the_road_games.html Obviously, our schedule is highly rated and we play road games. It seems to me that the November and December schedule would have an impact on how you play in January when the conference schedule begins: if you have a weak early schedule you might not be prepared for the level of completion in the conference. But I don’t see how the early schedule would have any impact on how you play in March. Any team that goes through a tough conference schedule should be ready for March. So my question is: Does the November and December schedule have any impact on how a team plays in March? For the second hour: Coach, you said recently that Fab Melo is 40% of what he could eventually be. Bob McKenney of Jamesville Dewitt was interviewed on a local radio show and the subject of Fab Melo came up. Bob suggested that if the NBA wanted Fab he should go because the NBA, with expanded rosters, is more of a developmental league than it used to be. Bud Poliquin suggested that Fab would develop more if he were on an NBA team because he’d be practicing against NBA players, not college players. Is college the best place for a player like Fab to develop his skills or would he be better off in the NBA? How important is it to maximize your skill package before you get evaluated by the NBA?
