The last big thing to be determined as the Big East splits into two conferences is custody of the Big East name.

Since the Catholic 7 are leaving, the football schools retain the rights to the name. But they are going to make less than the Catholic 7 after the divorce and are very interested in selling the name to the Catholics for a reasonable price. And the Catholics really want to retain the name.

So the Catholics will get their way and also probably retain the rights to host their tournament at MSG.

Game, set, match Catholics. Aresco is not the answer.

Football schools get nothing but each other

Would it surprise anyone if the football schools made an offer to purchase the CUSA name? Essentially, that is what they are.

yes.

the smart move is a brand spankin new name and logo where they can come out and lie to the press about how happy everyone is to be there and how awesome this new conf will be.

They have to rename it something. Cant use the Conf USA name. Wont work

North America Conference (that way of any Canadian schools joined, wouldn't have to change the name).

At some point, you have to call a spade a spade.

Big Sieve.

Think of the sponsor opportunities with Russell Finex and Impact Test Equipment.

Murrica Freedom Conference... cuz this is Murrica and theyre pretty much playing for free.

The rest of us can refer to them as that MF Conference.

their footprint reminds me of the Woody Guthrie folk classic, This Land Is Your Land:

"From the redwood forest, to the gulf steam waters . . ."

so, how about The Big Woody?

I think they will be the first conference to sell their name to a sponsor. Maybe at Classics or Legends to the name.

My guess - The Nationwide Legends Conference. It wouldn't surprise if they had already approached Nationwide Insurance. Their opening bid for rights fees would probably be around $25.

How about 1-AA. Cause that's where they will all be in five years.
