Of course this view of the new Dome which Legacy provides daily is made even more exquisite with a vermillion sky in the background but what makes this a perfect subject is the University's Quad, Hendricks Chapel, Crouse in the far right background, the buildings that surround the Quad and now the Dome with its Crown Truss and when finished the accent lighting that will illuminate the spirals and girders. It will be seen from afar by many in years to come and be recognized as a unique achievement on our campus. Especially when the lighting is completed. I don't think anyone is going to want to turn this new thing off at night. And, I believe it will be done well by a trusted company who has great experience in corporate signage and the lighting of important buildings. You do not want a beautiful birthday cake created and then presented without the candles. When I looked at the first rendering done in grey and black and white I thought it could have been done better and longed for the first unauthorized rendering. As an industrial designer I have come to like the creative aspect of the work. Roller Coaster was there for me for awhile but after several months as the project developed I critiqued it for its own personality and what it encloses. Looking at it in this view, the Crown Truss, (girders themselves alone), has movement reflecting what goes on inside the building. Rising from a non-symmetrical octagon, for me, its design a sinuous, curving, compressed circle that has to follow a certain pattern to address and support the roof. Supported by climbing then descending at the sides then ascending again so high the spiral columns lend further interest to the building especially when the roof is completed and lighted internally and externally. I'll bet this building will be a showplace when complete - (it already was for me but they are making it better). I can see a light at the base of each spiral directed upward. There is now the wall building lights below each spiral base just below the walkway at the top of the wall all the way around the structure but their light is directed outward. Look at it and you see what may happen when the company that lights the candles perhaps with an orange hue is finished with lighting. The WOW factor that was mentioned about the scoreboard may have competition in this buildings architecture even though it's only a roof. But what a roof! :)
