This article says the PTFE roof will be more efficient than the old roof, allowing for reduced maintenance costs and risks. It does says the PTFE will trap the roaring noise of the crowd. The old roof had a life span of about 15 years. The new one is supposed to last at least 40 years. I assume the constant pressure on the fabric of the old roof put it under strain and is a big reason the life of the new roof is supposed to be much longer than the lifespan of the old roof.
