per Hicks, "We do 26 110-yard sprints for time," Hicks explained. "Linemen have to make it in under 19 seconds. We grade them by how many they make. Our linemen are all passing all of them."

that is simply amazing for the OLinemen if you ask me.

Victory in hard time assured

The offense can only move as fast as their slowest guy. I've been hearing for awhile that this team was in great shape and that the emphasis since last year was speed and conditioning.

This is going to be a completely different offense this year.

praise be!

I am excited to hear Foy has been working hard. I thought he was the most pleasant surprise on the team last year. Imagine how much better NAssib's So and Jr seasons would have been if someone like Foy had been the starter. Foy was more then functional. He was good in the run and had a few penalties. He got beat by some speed rushers, but sounds like he is working hard to get quicker.

I believe it -- we have experience everywhere except at center and a veteran QB makes a big difference.
The caveat is that we heard about a new offense every year since s 2008 and it was true only in 2012 when Nassib and senior receivers were able to execute. Maybe it works this year, with an OC and Hunt back for year two at the controls.

I wonder what Oregon lineman do? Have to think they've been up to or past these times for awhile now.

Hopefully the sprints are done without a full recovery. We don't need fast lineman as much as we need guys who won't wear down in the 4th quarter, and can continue playing at a high tempo. For example, running 19 seconds with 4- 5 minutes rest between sprints isn't as useful as a guy who can run them all in 20 seconds with a minute recovery.

I'd also like to see SU turn to the track team next winter for some 400m training tips for the skill positions. To look at the Oregon example, Thomas seemed to run away from everyone on the field, but his 40 times weren't blazing.

Based on this other article, I would guess that they are sprinting without full recoveries.

Thanks...must have missed that one the other day.

No problem. I'll be curious to see the results this year. It seems logical that we would hold up pretty well late in the game as a result, but sometimes logic is illogical :)

Agreed.

In no small part due to Terrell "freaking" Hunt taking things up a notch.

People are so sleeping on him... it is going to be amazing to see him emerge as one of the top playmakers in college football.

Hunt is our guy, but no one will be overlooking him. His style was very evident and on tape over the last 5-6 games. Not hard for a coach to pick it apart.

Key is how well our line holds up and if our receivers can find space. Estime will be a massive game-changer this year. Massive.

Different how?

The pace alone will be a drastic difference if they can execute. Drastic. The method they go about calling plays in as well (which was a clusterk last year as everyone knows). This was the biggest reason why McDonald traveled so much in the offseason to NFL teams and mentors.

Hearing on the offensive side that there are certain plays heavily booked in right now that are completely new looks. Stretch plays. Take it FWIW.

Stretch plays scare me.
