First, the article would have been perfectly fine had he stuck to the facts. The one problem I had with the article is that the writer chose only to include quotes from coaches that cast a slightly negative, which graduated to full on negative, commentary. I just rewatched the entire Introductory Press Conference and he never "promises" to recruit NYS. The quote in the article is exactly how he stated his approach to recruiting. In fact, he said that they need to work hard on Syracuse's backyard (NYS), but also to get into NJ, Philly and further down the seaboard. I also quickly looked back at the recruits from NYS using one of the recruiting service sites and here is what I found:

2016 - There were 11 recruits rated 3*+. There were no 4* or 5*. None committed to Syracuse, but considering Dino had a late start on recruiting, I think it's appropriate to give him a pass.
2017 - There were 17 recruits rated 3*+. There was a 5* recruit, but the remainder were all 3*. Of those 17 recruits, 9 were offered by Syracuse. 2 committed. Another 3 or 4 had interest from Syracuse, but no offer was extended.
2018 - There are 28 recruits rated 3*+. There are two 4* recruits and one 5* recruit. Of those 28 recruits, 10 were offered by Syracuse. 3 have committed. Another 10 or so have had interest from Syracuse at some point in the cycle. The cycle isn't over yet.
So, based on the data, Syracuse has been involved, or at least shown interest, in more than 50% of the recruits 3* and above from NYS during each year of Dino's tenure. Honestly, I think that's more than adequate, so I'm not sure why people would be up in arms. Further, all this talk about our recruiting classes largely coming from Florida and the midwest (MI, IL, etc.) seems somewhat misguided when taken out of context. Dino wasn't a Northeast guy. So in his first few years with Syracuse, he's done his diligence with regards to NYS recruits and then focused significant energies in the recruiting areas where he had experience and had previously developed relationships with high school coaches. I looked at Dino's 2015 class at Bowling Green and sure enough, they pulled 8 commitments from Florida kids and the remainder were largely from Ohio, Illinois and Michigan. The coach complaining about the offensive lecture, or lack thereof, made me chuckle a little. Dino has said time and again that it takes a year and a half to fully install his offense. Consider the fact that the kids have been living and breathing nothing but this offensive scheme through spring and fall practices, studying the playbook and playing 20 games running the playbook. Did that coach really think that a lecture covering 1-2 hrs would even crack the cover of the scheme? That's unfair, especially considering that it's very likely the first time Dino has met many of these coaches.
