This defense has a new wrinkle and it's about time JB finally did this! If you notice in past years, the back forwards in the zone usually played parallel with the center which often left the 3 point shot between the guard and forward wide open if the ball is rotated or thrown over the zone. This year if you notice, the back weak side forward sneaks up and guards that man until the guards recovers. For years we have gotten killed with that shot and I'm very excited to see how this new wrinkle works out. If you noticed tonight, Florida didn't get the usual wide open 3 that have killed us in the past, it was more of guys chucking it up with a hand in their face 25 feet from the basket.

It's not a new wrinkle. Pitino will have Kuric pop into the corner when our forward cheats up. It's called overloading the wing.

Yeah, Florida had guys in the corner; they just weren't feeding them.

After three recent games against SU, I feared that Donovan would be ready to beat the zone. For whatever reason, they weren't making plays like that. Pitino and Dixon will probably have players who can get to the corner and shoot.

Not sure that it is a new wrinkle as much as the quickness of CJ that is making it so. CJ is probably the best I have seen to date of any Cuse player in being able to step up to a guard and still get back to his position for D or boardwork.

I think that will be the key, if the other team has a guy who can get to the corner and hit that open jumper. As far as it not being a new wrinkle, I can't remember a team that made such an effort to have the forward come all the way up past the foul line area to help.

Agreed. When JS was in for CJ there was a noticeable difference in rotation. JS would linger about near the shooter after the guard rotated over, whereas CJ would immediately roll down low, to the corner, or somewhere in between.

CJ may be an improvement, but no human can cover 2 players or 2 spots on the court at once. Pitino and Dixon understand this better than anyone.
