- Hell week continues.
- Auburn had the kind of talent, strength and athleticism that we used to have.
- White they actually got their lead on some incredibly lucky shots - a pass that went through a player’s hands and a in, a dipsy-doo lay-up almost from the floor off a failed tie-up attempt and two Lamizana treys – the fact it, it was revving up their defense that gave them control of the game. We were doing pretty week, having a 25-24 lead with 7:20 left in the first half. We scored 8 more points in that half and were down by 10 and never got closer in the second half. There were three “pick 2” steals off three different players: Girard, Torrence and Buddy Boeheim. We shot 27% form three in the second half after 50% in the first half. We had 15 turnovers to their 7.
- Our rebounding had improved against VCU and Arizona but we got dominated on the boards here, 28-38. After 39 offensive rebounds in the previous three games, we got only 5 here. Again, JB’s formula is to hang in there on the boards and make up for any deficit with an advantage in turnover margin. In this game we were a combined -17.
- We continue to hang back and just hope they miss from three. VCU was hitting 26% before they faced us. They hit 39% against us. Arizona State had been hitting 31%. They hit 38.5% against us. Auburn had bene hitting 32%. They hit 40% against us. They also had no problem passing to the paint and then to the baseline for dunks and lay-ups.
- We need to be firing on all cylinders to have a chance against a team like this Buddy Boeheim, Cole Swider and Jesse Edwards each had 17 points. So did the rest of the team. Jimmy Boeheim had his first bad game, going 1 for 3 and scoring 3 points. He also had only one rebound in 24 minutes. Joe Girard was 1 for 6 for 3 points. He did have 3 rebounds and 3 assists and I was surprised that he only got called for 2 turnovers. He was often the one staring at the guy swishing an Auburn three pointer.
- Jabari Smith should let his game do the talking. It speaks loudly and makes more sense than his mouth.
- I still think we could be a good team someday. But what will our record be when we get there?
