- Tevin Mack averages 11.6 points per game and scored 32. The easy penetration of the ball into the paint killed us. Not only did Mack nearly triple his scoring average but both our center and power forward fouled out trying to guard him and Amir Simms. We held Simms to 2 points, (he averages 13.6) but the double-team left Mack open. We needed to stop the ball out front and Buddy and Joe didn’t do that. Clemson was 13 for 18, ((72%) on two point shots in the second half.

- Clyde Trapp averages 6.0 points per game and scored 17. He came in 7 for 27 from three and made 4 of 7. Clemson was 7 for 17, (41%) on three point shots in the first half.

- For the first time in a while lost the battle of the boards by a significant margin, 26-36, largely because our big guys were in foul trouble. After Dolezaj fouled on a play he wasn’t close to, the ref, per Jimmy Satalin, came over and told JB “My Bad”. It’s nice when they admit it but…

- After we got the trey and flagrant foul call, nothing seemed to go right, (and we couldn’t get any calls). We were up 50-41 and had the ball with a chance to go up by double figures. Simms blocked Boeheim’s shot and Buddy fouled trying to get the ball back. Mack got a three point play on the other end. Mack scored again after Hughes turnover. SU had two one-and-done empty trips and Mack made another lay-up. Boeheim missed a trey and Hughes turned it over again and Mack was back at the foul line, making 1 of 2. That made it 50-49 and anybody’s ball game before we scored again on a Dolezaj jumper. But we never pulled away. they caught us and took leads at 52-53, 56-57, 59-61 before SU re-took the lead to set up the final sequence.

- SU led 70-69 in the final minute with the shot clock winding down. Girard, who at 6-1 has no business trying to score in the paint, managed to flip up a wild lay-up with 11 seconds left. It went out of bounds but off Clemson. Unfortunately, it didn’t touch the rim. The shot clock was down to 1 second. We inbounded to the 6-6 Hughes, who also got a lay-up attempt in the paint. But it missed. There could have been a foul call but there wasn’t. This one did touch the rim so there was no shot clock violation and not need to inbound the ball. Clemson beat our defense down the court for the go-ahead lay-up. Girard, a high school quarterback, inbounded with no one in front of him with 1.4 second left. All he needed to do was get it into the front court. But Hughes went all the way to the corner, forcing a 90 foot pass which was tipped out of bounds. Then, with 0.9 left, JB switched the inbounder to Howard Washington so Girard would be available as a shooter. Hughes ran away from the basket, grabbed the pass and turned violently to throw up a shot that never got there. Girard was open behind him and may have been the target. Horrible execution on both inbounds plays. If Girard’s lay-up attempt had grazed the rim, we are inbounding with 11 seconds left and one point lead. They have to foul us. If Hughes’ lay-up attempt had missed they rim, they have to inbound the ball and we get to set up our defense. On such things are 1 point games decided.

- We’ve been blade-running with 4 close wins in our five game winning streak. You knew we had to fall off eventually.
