- I was admiring the fancy plays we were making to score in the first few minutes of the game and expected an stressless evening. But Cornell was feisty on defense and the points stopped coming, allowing them to get back into the game. We were stuck on 20 points for 2:43. Then we were stuck on 24 for 5:39. Only a two point jumper from the top of the key by Buddy gave us the halftime-lead. Then we started well early in the second half, building a 44-35 lead only to have the Big Red chip Away until it was 44-41 with 9:38 left. I had visions of the LeMoyne game, although this wouldn’t have bene as shocking at that. But this was no exhibition game, either. Fortunately, an 8-0 run gave us our first double figure lead and we were in control after that.

- We still lack an inside game on offense. Sidibie, Dolezaj and Guerrier were 9 for 12 but that’s only 12 shots from our big men. And we only got to the line 18 times to Cornell’s 25. JB was bragging on his radio show that our best teams wind up having 300 more free throw attempts on the year than the opposition. If Cornell is getting to the line more often than we are, we have a problem.

- Our interior defense was a problem in this game, too. We had no blocked shots. None. Cornell was 8 for 13 on two point shots. Jimmy Boeheim in particular was adept at penetrating his father’s defense to make 5 of 9 from two point range and 9 for 11 from the foul line. That’s nice for him but what are other teams with more and better big guys going to do. Easy penetration out front was a big part of the problem. Joe and Buddy give us a lot but a lock-down defense out front isn’t one of them.
