- Against Colgate we took a 17-2 lead. The rest of the half was 26-44. Against Brown we took a 16-4 lead. The rest of the half was 22-28. Against Cornell we took a 17-2 lead. The rest of the half was 17-27. In the second half against Brown we started out 23-6 and the rest of the half was 32-24. We build on the lead instead of letting it slip away. Why can’t we do that more often?
- Part of it was some bad turnovers. Joe Girard had 5 of them, most of them of the mindless variety. Both he and Sym Torrence tend to try to dribble through pressure, although their teammates don’t do enough to give them an alternative.
- In the two games since we came back from Covid, we are 20 for 35 from the line (57%). Part of it is that Jim is using these games to play his bench and none of them are good free throw shooters.
- Normally you’d like to see the refs call fouls early to establish control of the game and then back off a bit. In this game they called 9 fouls in the first half and 19 in the second. Also, normally fouls come on two point attempts. Wee had 37 such attempts and were fouled 15 time they had 19 two point attempts and were fouled 13 times. And this was with Cornell playing an aggressive in-you-face defense as if they were VCU, (but with less talent).
- Benny Williams got 14 minutes of playing time. he got off two shots, one an off-line three pointer. He di have 3 rebounds, two steals, a block and a thunderous alley-oop dunk. But he still looks like a guy going at 33 1/3 while everyone else is going at 45. (They say vinal is back so I think you know what I mean).
- Frank Anselem regressed, making two free throws but getting 0 rebounds in 11 minutes. As a team were out-rebounded 34-37 by a team with no inside game.
- We have Buddy and Jimmy Boeheim, (who’s shooting 41%), Cole Swider and Joe Girard and yet the opposition has 105 more points than we do from the three-point line, (305-411).
- Now it’s all ACC all the time. Are ready for that?
