- We got off to another 0-10 start and Red had had enough. He announced in his presser that “Guys who play without heart and don’t do what we want them to do will not play.” Let’s see who doesn’t play very much the next few games and see if they make a comeback. What Red needs to do beyond that is to get all or most of his players playing well at once. Starling, Divis, Freeman, Moore and Lampkin have all had great games. Bell has a damp fuse but he’s capable of going off. I’ve always said that if 1-2 guys are playing well, you’ll probably lose. If 3-4 guys are playing well, you’ll likely win. If it’s more than that, you’ll blow somebody’s doors off. - JJ Starling had his career worst game, shooting just 3 for 17 from the field , although he managed to get to the foul line and hit 6 of 8 for doubles figures with 12 points. Obviously, he’s not going to do that very often. If he’s had just an average game, we’d have bene comfortably ahead in this game from the time we took the lead. I’m not worried about JJ. - Chris Bell: Where are you? - Eddie Lampkin for the second straight game gave us nothing. He didn’t even start. Matt Park questioned whether he would play at all. This wasn’t a second game in as many nights, like Friday’s game. What’s his future here? - Jaquan Carlos, in the first exhibition against Clarion had 14 points, 10 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals. He was 6 for 8 from the field. In the 7 games since, (including Slippery Rock), he’s scored 20 points on 7 for 31 shooting, 1 for 8 from three point range. He does have 25 assists, (and unexceptional 3.6 per game) and 6 steals, less than one a game. He has a reserve’s numbers as a starter. What vexes me about Carlos is that Slippery Rock, Le Moyne, Colgate, Youngstown State and Cornell are on about the same level as the teams he would have been playing against for Hofstra, where he averaged 10.4p/4.4r/6.3a/1.6 steals. Where is that guy? - The only thing I find more embarrassing than struggling to beat teams we used to blow out is congratulating ourselves on playing competitively against Texas and Texas Tech. WE ARE SU! Let’s act like it!
