- For much of the evening this looked like a colossal and embarrassing upset, comparable to the LeMoyne game of 2009 but one that counted. This Cornell team was 13-18 last year and was missing their best player, Shonn Miler. Yet they cle3alry out-played us and by a wide margin for most of the first half. We turned it around but it wasn’t very encouraging when it was 22-36.
- DaJuan Coleman continues to get tangled up in the defense. He took to flinging up flip shots from 5 feet away. He got to the line but was 0 for 2. I don’t remember Arinze looking this bad at this stage.
- Cornell did what opponents did last year with MCW: cover all the passing lanes and force the point guard to beat you by shooting the ball. Michael wasn’t that good a jump shooter but did learn to drive to the basket in those situations. Tyler started to learn it in this game but not before he was 0 for 6 from the field, including two missed treys. He’s got to make them pay better than that.
- C/. J. Fair got stripped of the ball way too many times and wound up with 7 turnovers, half the team’s total. JB said in his presser that he’s got to remember what kind of game he plays and not try to play like other players. Maybe D. J. is taking this pre-season player of the year stuff a little too seriously. He can be a great player but only in the flow of the game. He’s not a “gimmie the ball and I’ll dominate the game” guy.
