- We are 5-0 against Lemoyne, Colgate, Youngstown State, Cornell and Albany and 0-5 against Texas, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Notre Dame and Georgetown. The only other team we play who belongs in the first group is Bucknell. The other 20 games belong in the second group. All points to season with single digit wins, which we haven’t had since 1968-69. Honk if you were alive to see that season. (Honk!) - Again, this feels like Red’s equivalent of Dino’s 2020 season: a flawed team further compromised by health problems, (Westry, Lampkin, Starling), and defections (5 guys back from last year’s roster, which had no seniors), that shows the ability to compete for a time but not to make the plays needed to win the game and winds up with a horrible record as a result. Dino came back from 1-10 to 5-7, 7-6 and 6-7. But that was not enough for him to retain his job. If this a single digit win season for Red, he’s going to have to do better than that – and probably more quickly - or we’ll be looking for somebody else. His AD is the same guy that fired Dino. - This team has two primary continuing problems, one on either end of the court. Where is our three point game? We are shooting 49 for 181 from outside the arc, 27.1%. Last year we were 33.6%, which would have produced 61 threes. A dozen more threes could have helped us win some of those 5 losses, 4 of which were close games. Our “Big Gun”, Chis Bell, shot 84 for 200 last year, 42.0%, including 8 of 9 against Louisville and 8 of 10 against Louisville and NC State. This year Chris is 11 for 46, 23.9%. He used to be 11 for 34, 32.3% but he’s missed a dozen threes in a row. Last year Lucas Taylor was 64 for 181 at Georgia Tate, 35.4%. This year he’s 1 for 13, 7.6%. Elijah Moore had big games against Cornell, (19 points), and Tennessee (24 points), He was 8 for 13 from three in those games. Since then, he’s 2 for 13 and has scored 20 points in three games. It’s like trying to win football games with no passing attack. You have to go into the teeth of the defense to score. - The problem on defense continues to that players who get past their primary defenders can go right to the basket unimpeded to score. We were 19 for 38 in two point attempts, 50.0%. Notre Dame was 62.5% because of undefended drives to the basket. Jimmy Satalin said that Eddie Lampkin had no business being far out to defend the pick and roll because he can’t get back to defend the basket. Jaquan Carlos can’t seem to stay in front of anyone. Georgetown was an even worse shooting team than we were but we couldn’t stop them when it counted. - We attempted 29 free throws to 11 but still couldn’t win. - Donnie Freeman seems to be our best player. He played 19 minutes, scored 8 points and had 1 rebound after 4 double-doubles. How can we win without our best guys out there? If Bell isn’t hitting threes, our best front line is surely Freeman, Lampkin and Davis? How often do those three play together? - If Georgetown sucks, what do we do?
