- The offensive funk that began with the second half of the Virginia Tech game continued. In these last thee halves, we’ve scored 71 points in 91 possessions, an average of 0.780. In the first half vs. Va Tech we scored 42 points in 31 games, (1.354). If the Syracuse of the first half of the Va Tech game played the team we’ve seen since in a game where both teams got 60 possession, the first half Va Tech team would win 81-47. We’ll be playing teams that are that good several times before this is over. - But Georgia Tech wasn’t one of them. Watching this game was like watching that 2013 SU team at Georgetown playing itself. The second half was a pitiful 18-18. Good Grief! - The two teams missed 76 of 109 shots. But a lot of them were close! - It was a night where Rakeem Christmas even missed 10 of his 17 shots. - Chris McCullough was 1 for 7 from the field and 1 for 4 from the line. He’s now 8 for 32 from the field in his last seven games. (He was 45/79 (57%) in the first 8 games.) Chris is 6-10, athletic and has good form on his jump shot, (even if the arc is a little high). He is a bit skinny. But there is no way on earth he should be missing ¾ of his shots. - Trevor Cooney did hit a big three down the stretch but otherwise had a lousy game. Those strong drives to the basket were largely absent. He was 3 for 10 from the field and missed 1 of 2 free throws late after going 2 for 5 in the last game, (he’d been a 90% guy)-. I heard a quote from Gerry McNamara today, (second hand). GMAC supposedly told Cooney not to think about the importance of a foul shot. He said to look over at the opponent and say “You’re night is over.” Foul shooting isn’t a number. It’s an attitude. - We got out-rebounded 33-42 by one of the shorter teams in the conference, although tech would rank higher if you measured height sideways. Some of them looked more like football players than basketball players. - Tyler Roberson also regressed with 3 points, 3 rebounds – and 3 turnovers and 4 four fouls. He went back to his tentative play, including air-balling a 10 foot shot identical to one he’d made in the last game. - Let’s throw Kaleb Joseph and Ron Patterson in together. They were 0 for 4 and never scored. They did have 7 assists between them, impressive in a game of this nature. - You want to do two things: Win and do it in such a way that you are confident we are going to win the next one. It’s a good thing we’re doing the first because we aren’t doing the second. - People were all excited when they saw that our early ACC schedule is full of also-rans and bottom feeders. Unfortunately, that’s what we are, too. -
