- “But it was closer than the score indicated”. Nobody cares. When you look at the scores in the paper or on the net, do you say that? Going from 56-61 to 56-73 and from 47-53 to 57-76 is not a good thing. - You can’t get off to a start like this, (12-27) against a ranked team and expect anything good to come of it. All points are the same but getting blitzed at the beginning and end of games is not the formula for success. - Chris Bell and Justin Taylor were 2 for 23 in this game. Taylor is 0 for 9 for the tournament and has not scored at all. He had 7 rebounds against Tennessee but none in this game. - Benny Williams might have helped but didn’t play at all. Matt Park just said “We know he is not injured” and earlier said that “Coach Red is trying to send him a message.” With Malik Brown having to play center much of the time, that means we basically got nothing from our forwards. - Tennessee out-rebounded us 33-48. Gonzaga out-rebounded us 28-48. I think I detect a trend there. Offensive rebounds are 16-33 and I don’t remember the 16. - Getting to the line is a big part of our offense, although making free throws is not a specialty. We’ve to get the calls and we haven’t been thus far. We were 8 for 17 vs. the Vols and 8 of 10 vs. the Zags. Both teams out-scored us from the line. - The rims don’t love us. We are 9 for 44 from three in two games, (20%). We’ve also had a lot of lay-ups spin out and have been less than perfect from the foul line. - Jim Boeheim used to tell us that no one feeds the centers anymore. It’s not about having a ‘back-to-the-basket game. Meet Graham Ike, who utterly had his way against our big men, who went down like dominos as Mr. Ike scored 16 points, grabbed 14 rebounds an added 4 steals. His teammate Anton Watson also had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, many of the points coming on dunks. Ike is 6-9 240. Watson is 6-8 228. But Naheem McCloud is 7-4 265 and Maliq Brown is 6-8 222. They shouldn’t get pushed around by anybody on this level.
