- I knew as the score mounted for both teams in the first half that JB would not be happy about our defense. He said at halftime that it was “non-existent”. (How can you get upset about something that doesn’t exist?). Basically Long Beach State gave a clinic on how to dissect a zone. They got the ball to the top of the key where they had a guy who could pass or score form there. From there they dumped it down to the baseline for scores. The Niners had 38 points in the paint, same as us. Usually we dominate in that area but Louisiana Tech also was even with us there, (at 36) and Villanova, normally a perimeter team, topped us,. (36-38), so interior defense is a concern. But before we blame the bigs, it all started with the entry pass to the high post, which we did nothing to stop.
- Chris McCullough’s struggles continue. He was marginally better in this game and the last three, hitting a 15 footer and going 5 for 6 from the line. But he only got off three shots and rebounded two of them in 23 minutes. Our defense and rebounding turned around when JB went to Tyler Roberson in the second half. I don’t think C-Mac has lost his starting job but the leashing is going to get shorter and shorter if he continues to play like this.
