- Did that really happen? I thought that kind of loss was in the rear view mirror. It was reminiscent of Dino’s first two games in 2016: a 31-7 win over Colgate, after which we led the nation in most defensive categories, followed by a 28-62 loss to Louisville. But that was squares 1 and 2. This was square 39. Has the ball rolled all the way back down the hill?

- Maryland had one returning starter from each line from a team that went 5-7 and yet they totally dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides. Our outstanding defensive ends who were supposed to chase Josh Jackson out of the stadium totaled 2 tackles, one for a loss. The Terps weren’t crawling on the ground, gaining 354 yards at 7.9 a pop and scoring 6 touchdowns. We are proud of our excellent running backs but all they could manage in response was 70 yards on 24 carries, (2.6) and no scores. That was the ball game.

- Each game is a chess game between the coaching staffs. One team does something that works. The other makes an adjustment to stop it. Does it work? Do they weaken themselves in some other area? Can the first team recognize that and exploit it? Maryland collected all the pieces in this game. Everything they did seemed to work and when they made an adjustment, Mike Locksley’s staff was all ready for it.

- Even when we were in positon to make plays, we didn’t make them. There were missed tackles all over the field. Then there was Maryland’s final drive where they ran the same running play three times in a row and went 92 yard to score. The back, (ironically named ‘Funk’), went through a big hole and the linebacker, cornerback and safety on that side of the field simply weren’t there.

- DeVito wound up with good numbers but his two first half turnovers both led to Maryland touchdowns and Syracuse had two straight possessions that started in Maryland territory followed by two more that ended there, one on the 8 yard line and produced no points. Tommy can complete passes in the pocket but he is reluctant to run and has trouble both seeing the field and throwing the ball on the run. Also, he’s got to stop throwing the ball away on fourth down. Even an interception is better than that provided the guy doesn’t get away on us, (and down big, what does even that matter? When he does throw the ball away he has a tendency to not put much behind it and sometimes the ball doesn’t get past the sidelines. That’s what happened on the interception.

- Jackson had a great game but we’ve got to get more form the other receivers. Riley and Harris can play. They need to start doing it. And what about some of the young guys? Cam Jordan, Courtney Jackson, the Johnsons, Anthony Queeley, Kevin Mital, etc.

- Maybe the most disturbing thing was that Maryland was ready to play- and win - this game and we weren’t. Even Dino admitted it in his post-game interview. We had a dropped pass on the first play. After Maryland scored, we had a false start and a fumble. They were a Corvette and we were a Model T.

- Will GameDay ever come to Syracuse? When we deserve it.

Gave you a like for the hilarity of a post titled "The Downside."

Good points. In a nutshell MD had a dual threat QB who was in complete control, a strong speedy RB, a very good TE, better WRs and a stronger OL. Better talent behind a better OL. On defense, they stopped the run, and covered the WRs tightly (with a few exceptions — mostly Jackson). Devito can throw a pretty pass, but he has a lot to learn about how to scramble and make plays.
