- Imagine what this team could do if they played efficiently instead of just hard. We did cut our penalties down to just 3 from the doubles figures we were getting but one of them was a false start after we’d called a time out to avoid a delay of game. Then there were those four turnovers. Doug Marrone used to say, (probably still does) that you chances of winning go down 25% with each turnover more than the other team has. Eric Dungey negated his first interception by prying the ball away and falling on it but we figure to lose any game where he has 4 turnovers and to lose it big if we playing a top ten team. That we didn’t is a credit to the team but that we put ourselves in a hole again is not. - Dungey got badly beat up, (there were several late hits that weren’t called), but even at the beginning of the game there appeared to be something wrong. He was under great pressure from Miami but it was more than that. His passes seemed to float away on him and wind up nowhere near the receiver. Was it the wet ball? Rosier had no problem with it. Does he have a hand injury of some sort. - Dungey got into it with someone on the Miami sideline at the end of the game. He’s had it with the late hits and the no calls. A very frustrated young man. - Steve Ismael got double-teamed and knocked around, hurting his hip late in the first half. He wound up with 4 catches for 41 yards and no scores, really a non-factor. - Ravian Pierce lost his temper again and got flagged for 15 at a key point. They showed shots of him shouting on the sideline. He was supposedly coming on as a big new weapon for us. He didn’t have a catch in this game. - We can’t force turnovers. The last turnover forced by our defense was at 7:31 of the first half of the NC State game. We had a couple of balls that could have bene intercepted today but were dropped. Overall, our defense has forced 8 turnovers in 8 games. That means we are swimming upstream in every game, not making our own breaks. - We seem to have a weakness at safety. Most of the long plays against us have involved them being out of positon- if they are even in the picture. - Sterling Hofrichter seemed to be a huge field position weapon but he seems to have lost his mojo even as Cole Murphy regained his. His first 5 games, (24 kicks), he averaged 46.7. In the last three games (13 kicks), he’s averaged 37.3. - I thought Miami’s defensive front was more impressive than Clemson. They may not weight 340 pounds but they were quicker and it was a huge difference most of the game that Dungey and the backs were under constant pressure on every play whereas Malik Rosier’s uniform remained pretty clean. - We could be undefeated right now. In horseshoes.
