- We got off to the 17-2 start and decided we were going to win by 100 points because this is so easy. Niagara kept playing hard, (a tribute to Greg Paulus who has proven to be a peppery coach), and won the rest of the game. 54-55. - JB was so proud of having 22 assists and 4 turnovers against North Florida. In this game we had 15 and 16. - Joe Girard was 1 for 7 from three point range and the one hit the front rim and rolled in. For the season, he’s now 26 for 80 from the arc (32.5%), less than what you’d want from a volume shooter. The issue going into the season was supposed be whether he could contribute anything beyond his shooing. He can, but where is the shooting? - Niagara had one guy over 6-2 in their starting line-up: 6-9 220 Nicholas Krathholm who averages 5p/3r per game. They had a 6-6 and a 6-5 guy coming off the bench. What we did on the boards and in blocking shots in this game will mean nothing starting next week. - We continue having problems keeping the opposition out of the paint, which led to Sidibe fouling out. The Purple Eagles scored 16 two pointers. Maybe their small but quick-lineup was too difficult for our guys to keep up with. - 13 of our 16 turnovers were Niagara steals. They were very aggressive on defense and we had some sloppy passes and bad decisions. - This was the last game for our bench players to make a case for more playing time. Only Braswell did and per JB’s presser, he has a leg problem that causes them to consider a red-shirt. Jesse Edwards couldn’t play. Jim said on his show this week that he is “under the weather”. (Aren’t we all?). Quincy Guerrier grabbed 3 rebounds and blocked a shot in 15 minutes but made a terrible pass under the basket for a turnover and clanked 10 footer so bad the ball practically bounced back to him. Brycen Goodine hustled, the camera showed JB clapping hands and smiling at him after one play. But he was 0 for 4 from the field, had no assists and 1 turnover. Howard Washington sat out the game but is expected back next week. We have a lot of names on the roster but as far as players who have shown they can be consistent contributors, it’s basically our starting line-up and that’s it. That’s not JB’s fault: it’s what his players have given him to work with.
