- Going into this game there was a feeling that the winner would gain some traction toward a winning season while the loser was likely to go downhill. And the loser is: US.

- “And the whole country will be watching.” Ulp.

- Still another frustrating night against the Wolfpack who are now 11-2 against us all time.

- It was another game where we really didn’t seem prepared emotionally to start the game. We seemed to do everything slow motion and with minimal efficiency. We kept shooting ourselves in the foot with mistakes. The other team just seemed to have more energy and focus than we did and that’s tough to watch.

- 12 penalties: they were for only 59 yards but at least four of them came at the beginning of drives and put us in a hole. And some of them were unbelievably stupid: holding on a touchback…a 5th year senior breaks up a third down pass in the end zone and gets flagged for jawing with the receiver after the play, giving them a first and goal from the 2. Where is the leadership?

- We got a net 41 yards rushing. You aren’t going to win many games with that output.

- And where are the tight ends? In the previous two games Aaron Hackett had 8 catches for 70 yards and 3TDs and Luke Benson had one catch for 70 yards and a touchdown. In this game, Hackett got two shovel passes for 9 yards and no scores late in the game and Benson didn’t play at all. In game where quarterback protection and scoring in the red zone were issues, why did we ignore a major weapon that might have helped solve both problems?

- Tommy DeVito can put up numbers but his instincts for the game just seem to be lacking. Adam Terry, SU’s color man on the radio broadcasts, noted that when he feels pressure, his eyes go down and he’s looking for a place to escape, not downfield to his receivers. Somehow as a redshirt sophomore in the 6th game of the season he didn’t know that you can’t throw the ball away unless you are outside the hashmarks. And the sack he took on the games last play was completely unforgivable. I wonder how much leadership he can exercise when his teammates see such things.

- We expect to have an advantage in the kicking game no matter who we play. Andre Szymt won the Groza award last year and Sterling Hofrichter wows us in the Dome. But in this game, Sterling averaged 43.9 yards per punt while Trenton Gill averaged 48.8 for the Pack. Szmyt doinked a 44 yarder in the first half that would have changed the strategical situation at the end of the game while Christopher Dunn was 3 for 3 for NC State.

- The officiating was something to see. The refs repeatedly gave Syracuse short placements and the pack generous spots. They ignored several obvious pass interference calls, (Adam Terry actually got to giggling at the replays because he couldn’t believe it. And in the last possession they completely ignored Dungey being flattened after they’d blown the whistle to call us for a false start for the umpteenth time. They also ignored a previous play where DeVito gave himself up and then got jumped on by a 300 pounder.

- Dino Babers was clearly upset in his interview with matt Park after the game. Matt asked him about the penalties and Dino said “I’ve been talking nice to them….maybe I have to find a way to talk nicer.” He was just very tense, much more so after prior defeats. I think he’s very frustrated with his team.

- As well he might be: this was the 6th game. Everything was supposed to fall into place in the 4th to 6th game. it sure hasn’t.

You’ve got Dungey on the mind.

And Benson did play. I saw him running a couple routes but he wasn’t open.

At least I've stopped calling him Danny DeVito. (I'll bet even Danny knows the grounding rule.)

I kept looking for a two RB set or two TE set and time and again it was empty backfield. Really, what gives?
