- We almost blew it in the final minute. ND was making the kind of impossible shots teams always seem to start making when we are trying to close out a game. We had Guerrier , our worst FT shooter (59%), hold the ball to get fouled instead of getting it to one of the four clearly better FT shooters we had on the court at the time, (fortunately, he made both). Dolezaj inbounded 35 feet to a jump ball with our shortest player as his target. We almost lost the ball on the final inbound with a second left. We are going to be playing in many more close games and we can’t afford to do dumb things in the final minute of these games.

- There’s always a guy like this at Notre Dame or at Louisville: Dane Goodwin was scoreless in the first half and c=scored 15 in the second half as we tried to guard everybody else. We’d have cruised home without him.

- I still wish we had a guy like Mooney, who had 28 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists at the Dome and 21/13/6 tonight. So many of our opponents have a guy like that, who isn’t going to win any decathlons but who knows how to play the game and to use his body around the basket. It can’t that hard to find one somewhere who would like to play for us.

- Notre dame was credited with 23 assists to our 13. Part of the reason is that scorers tend to discredit an assist if the shooter has to take a step toward the basket. We are developing our dribble-drive game which produces no assists. ND is still strictly a perimeter team other than Mooney so they get credited with more assists than we do. But an assist is also an opinion and the home team tends to get the opinions. It’s a good thing there’s no room on the scoreboard for them.

Hate to raise a negative after such a great win BUT we again had massive trouble in-bounding the ball against pressure. Nearly blew an 8 point lead with 43 seconds remaining because of it. Has been a consistent problem for many years. Thankfully Gurrier & JG canned their free throws to enable us to hold on.

Not sure why this hasn’t been said, but Buddy was not good in the first half. JB should have pulled him after 2 fouls. He came back nicely in the second half.

Totally agree with you on having a big man like Mooney - I guess we can dream - but regarding the assists, I really don't care whether or not we get an assist as long as we score. You are correct on the judgement of the "home team" scorer regarding the assist stats.
