[QUOTE="SWC75, post: 5248175, member: 289"] - I’ll use a line form Brent Axe: “Every time Syracuse knocked on the door, they couldn’t get in.” Syracuse was able to hang with Texas and Texas Tech but could not make the plays at critical points to win the game. As Red says, they need to learn how to win. And that’s frustrating because this is a veteran team. - On Thursday, Red found a lineup that was working and stuck with it. Tonight he seemed to be experimenting with different line-ups. Inevitably he came up with the wrong one at the wrong time. The game was 38-38 at 16:28 in the second half. A trey, a turnover and a three point play made it 38-44 by 15:53. Jayre Davis replaced Eddie Lampkin, Elijah Moore replaced Chris Bell and Lucas Taylor replaced JJ Starling and by 10:44 we were down 44-55. We never really got back in it. - Jaquan Carlos came here as a point guard who “got the ball to the right people” and played good defense, (he was the America East defensive player of the year). He’s often the “other guy in the picture” when opposition payers are scoring. He’s played 144 minutes, (3.6 games) and has 19 assists. He is, at best a back-up point guard and he’s starting. - JJ Starling and Chris Bell scored 49 points. Great. The rest of the team scored 25 points. Lucas Taylor is a good defenders by the hit 35% of his three pointers last year and scored 14.5ppg. He’s scored 11 points in 71 minutes. When he and Carlos are on the floor, that’s two non-scorers. Jayre Davis does a lot of good things but played 12 minutes and never attempted a shot. Donnie Freeman had 13 rebounds but 12 were defensive and he was 1 for 7 on the other end. Tech determined to take a winded Eddie Lamkin out of the game and they did. Eddie scored 4 points and had no assists. Elijah Moore did manage 8 points on 3 for 5 shooting with a trey but also had 8 turnovers. - Lampkin may have a problem when he gets no rest between games. That would only matter in the ACC tournament or the NCAAs. But if he’s also battling a back problem I wonder if we’ll see less of him as the season progresses. - Red said Chance Westry can only run the court for a minute or two, so his availability and impact may be far in the future.
