- We again are limping toward the NCAA tournament, having lost 5 of our last 7 games. We have the record of an NIT team: 18-14, with some bad losses and a dismal record outside the conference. Our record away from the Dome is now 2-11. I also wonder if there might some residual resentment toward last year’s team getting in. - We’ve played five teams twice in this conference. Louisville beat us both times. Boston College, Miami, Pittsburgh, and Georgia Tech all lost in the Dome but beat us in their place. If we’d pulled out the OT game against the Cardinals in the Dome, it would have been 5 for 5. This will be remembered as the team that can’t “do it on the road”. - Jimmy Satalin was saying on the post- game show that we only gave up 62 points, so our defense was not the problem. But ti was a 112 possession game. We’ve been averaging 136 possessions per conference game. Convert it and it becomes 75 points. We haven’t played a good defensive game on the road all year. - We were supposed be the team with the firepower but they went 9 for 23, (39.1%) from three point range while we were only 7 for 21 (33.3%). We still had a three to tie at the end but this time it clanged off. If every game comes down to that you are going to lose your share of them. - Some big zeros: Second Chance Points and Fast Break Points. We weren’t getting many offensive rebounds and did nothing with them when we got them and we didn’t beat the toehr team down court. - Tyler Roberson scored our only bench points: 2 - We had a 4-0 lead and gave up ten points in a row. We tied it at 19 and gave up 7 points in a row. We took a 41-40 lead and gave up 8 points in a row. I guess we couldn’t stand prosperity. - We had four offensive rebounds compared to their 22 defensive rebounds. That’s only 18 %. - Our assist to turnover ratio was 10-10. Theirs was 13-8. It’s one of the first things I look at in a box score. Things were coming easier to them than they were to us. - 2:38: It’s 52-58. Tyus Battle jumps for a crowd-pleasing dunk. But he jumps too soon and slams it into the back rim, then grabs the sides to avoid falling. The ball bounces way back out and Miami wins the race for it and scores at the other end to make it 52-57. That’s one we’ll remember for a while. - Tyler Lydon was 2 for 7 from the field and scored 5 points. He never got to the line. He’s become a terrific rebounder but he needs to score more than that. - Taurean Thompson made his first there shots and scored 6 of our first 11 points –and then never scored again. - John Gillon was AWOL most of the game. He got some late scores but still wound up with 8 points, 2 assists and 3 turnovers. 11 points would have done just fine. That last shot was certainly open. - Tyler Roberson’s specialty was rebounding but he got only 3 in 22 minutes and thus scored only 2 points. It’s been a disappointing senior year. - Andrew White scored 22 points but was only 1 for 6 from the field and was way off in the second half. I noticed they were treating his hand after it got whapped on a rebound. He didn’t do a lot after that. - For most of the second half the foul calls went our way, which is good. But it left us with having to foul several times in the last minute to get to the 1 and 1. The first two possession we did it, the players waited way too long to foul, depriving us of potential time at the end of the game. Jimmy Satalin was screaming about this , unable to believe we were letting time slip away.
