- It was a valiant effort, as JB said, but your record isn’t “wins losses and valiant efforts”. It’s supposed to be a valiant effort – to win. But it’s a loss. We need to go 4-2 now to clinch a winning season during the regular season. 3-3 gets us to 16-15 but we could go 0-1 in the ACC tournament. - I didn’t really expect to win this one but we didn’t lose it for the reasons I thought we’d lose it. I thought tech might go off from three on us, as they did against Florida State, (18 of 23), but, after an early barrage, they really didn’t. We out-shot them from three, 10/27 vs. 8/27. And I thought they’d foul out our centers and we’d wind up with Jimmy in the middle but Frank and Bourama played all 40 minutes and Frank played a heck of a game. We lost because: - Our Forwards, Cole Swider and Jimmy Boeheim, scored 10 points in the first 7:36 and just four points after that, all from Cole. They were a combined 6 for 22 from the field and Cole was 0 for 5 from the arc. I think the absence of Jesse Edwards’ offensive threat allowed Tech to push up on the forwards and take them out of the game. - We had 2 points off takeovers. Tech had 17. In ACC games we have 156 points from 153 takeovers. Our opponents have 214 from 155. I think that speaks to team speed. They can get downcourt and we can’t to cover them. - Fouls: 18-9, free throws: 4-21. I can’t remember a game before this in which we score 1 point from the foul line. - We were up 26-24 with 4:31 left in the first half and then suffered an 0-11 run that began with 3 straight turnovers. We wound up with four turnovers and were 0 for 4 from the field in that run. With 6:18 left in the game, we struggled back to 54-54 and then gave up another 0-11 run. That one began with a turnover but that was the only one in that stretch. The problem was we were 0 for 8 from the field and 0 for 2 from the foul line. The fact that both runs occurred late in halves make you wonder is fatigue was a factor. A lot of those missed shots were short. That ball gets heavy when you are tired. - Buddy Boeheim was our leading scorer with 21 points but he’s 14 for 38 in his last two games. He’s 6 for 19 from three but he’s also only 8 for 19 inside the arc and tonight he was often guarded by a smaller player. - Our thin bench has become so skinny you can barely see it. Frank Anselem is no longer a part of the bench. Bourama Sidibe got in for four minutes and committed three fouls. (I don’t think they amounted to much: it seemed like the refs were waiting for him.) Symir Torrence only got in for 7 minutes because Joe was playing well but Joe might have played even better if Sy had gotten more of a shot. With the forwards not scoring, why not put Buddy at the 3 and Joe at the 2? And Benny Williams has now missed his last 11 shots. His last make was in the first Wake Forest game over a month ago. If he was going to make it big someday, shouldn’t we have seen signs of it by now? - I hate losing to a guy named Justin Mutts. (Where’s Jeff?) But he killed us with his schools second ever triple-double and first in 14 years: 12p 14r, 11a.
