- Just watched the presser. Kaleb and Ronnie are sleeping with Snoopy tonight. Woooeeee!
- Against a team with four guards on the court, (their only big man was a guy named Satchel), we were well behind on the boards for most of the game. We eventually caught them at 40 but but this should have been a major advantage for us. Yes, long shots produce long rebounds but the biggest problem most of the game was offensive rebounds. We had only 3 of them in the first half and stayed on that number for a while in the second half.
- For much of the game, the Hokies were getting all the loose balls. A couple of times in a row in the second half they bobbled the ball multiple times but always got it back and eventually canned a three.
- Despite what people think, we are normally a good three point defensive team. But our last opponents have all made between 8-10 threes against us, a total of 55. We’ve made a total of 32 in those same games.
- Jim Salatin made the point that often our ball-handlers are getting the ball to the wrong players in the wrong spots. Tossing it to Ron Patterson for a three or trying to thread the needle to Tyler Roberson isn’t going to get it done.
- Tyler who seemed to be coming on strong, regressed during the week off. He wound up with 11 rebounds but was AWOL on the boards for most of the game. And he has no idea what to do with the ball when he has it on offense. He had been driving to the basket pretty well but that’s gone.
- When Rakeem Christmas was double teamed, the other guys were just kind of standing there, watching him. Players need to be aware of providing options for the guy with the ball.
- Rak had guys draped all over him all night. On some plays he looked like a quarterback getting sacked. They called nothing and he was showing the frustration in the second half. Of course if the refs called more fouls, they’d probably call more fouls on Rak, too, and he wouldn’t be able to play.
- Our free throws are agonizing. In this game we missed 13 of 27 and many of the ones we made were bleaders.
- You know Buzz Williams’ teams are going to get better and better, (and more irritiating). This was the eyar to get ‘em. We did it but we did it by 2 points each time. What will the Hokies be like when they are are good?
- Miracle finishes are fine but what happens when you run out of miracles? We had a couple of them last year and then started losing.
