On most of them SU fans were congratulated themselves that we’d stopped him. But then we saw where the ball was and where the original line of scrimmage was. Their line moved the line of scrimmage forward and allowed Fournette to get a running start so he could go down, when he did, still moving the ball forward. - In truth, LSU should have won this game by a comfortable margin. They didn’t pass much but when they did it was hugely effective. . They just aren’t that kind of team. And Les Miles showed some class, (a rare thing these days), by not piling another TD on at the end). - The Tigers really kept us in the game with 14 penalties for 120 yards. Those infractions hobbled their drives, (and killed Fournette’s 87 yarder) and kept ours alive. - Our pass defense is as suspect as ever, especially #1, Julian Whigham. He not only gave up the 51 yarder to Travin Deal on 3rd and 9, just after SU had scored to get within a TD. He turned it into a trifecta with a penalty for pass interference, (which was obviously ineffectual and Deal caught the ball anyway) and hen letting Mkachi Dupree jog to the corner of the end zone and catch an easy lob over his head. Dupre was open by 5 yards. Chris Gedney called Whigham “a good effort guy”. Firstly, I think you want a cornerback to be more than “a good effort guy”. Secondly, that effort seemed to be lacking, particularly on the TD pass. - The ending could have been more interesting had Cole Murphy not made a mess of the field goal we carefully set up before halftime.
