We were going to get the ball back if we stopped them but we left them off the hook and the momentum of the game totally changed. - Actually, Garrett Shrader did manage to complete 15 of 27 passes for 160 yards and touchdown passes of 24 yards to Anthony Queeley and 28 to Sean Tucker. The pass to Tucker went about half that distance and Sean took it the rest of the way. But Shrader’s attempt at truly deep passes were pathetically bad. One looked like a miscommunication on the route but the rest were so off target it looked like he needed glasses. A once important part of our attack has vanished. - Memo to our punters: You’re supposed to kick it to the center fielder, not the third baseman. - Coach Babers probably wishes he could spend as much time worrying about the other departments of the team as he does worrying about Andre Szmyt. But There have been too many misses by Szmyt recently. In fact, his career trend suggests a decline, although not an alarming one. As a freshman, he hit all 61 extra points and 30 of 34 field goals, (.882). As a sophomore he was 39/40 and 17/20, (.850) still very good. As a junior he was 23/24 and 9/11, (.818). Basically, the team was worse, but he really wasn’t. This year he’s 22/23 and 7/10 (.700). His miss today meant that the late score from Shrader to Tucker didn’t win the game. It only tied it, and that meant that we lost. - In any close game, (and that’s all we’re having right now), everything matters. Things like failing to get personnel or plays in in a timely fashion or calling time outs with the clock already stopped can combine with other events to cost you the game.
