- Add one to our list of disturbing comparative scores: Youngstown lost to Ohio State 47-81, then takes us into two overtimes and racks up 95 points. Le Moyne lost by 4 to us, 22 to Cal State Northridge and 41 to Connecticut. Colgate lost by 2 to us and 17 to Drexel. Who are we? Where are we?
- Our Big Three of Starling, Lampkin and Freeman totaled 77 points, 32 rebounds, and 13 assists. Everybody else had 27 points, 18 rebounds and 6 assists in 122 minutes played.
- Chris Bell, who I thought was our best player, scored 9 points on 3 for 13 shooting, including 1 for 8 from three. Some of his shots were air balls and one hit the side of the backboard.
- Jaquan Carlos had a few good moments but a lot of bad ones. He fouled out largely due to his problems covering people. He was 1 for 6 from the field, including some really bad misses. He did have 3 assists and 3 steals but continued to seem over-matched, even though the teams we’ve played so far are on the same level as his opponents at Hofstra.
- Red liked Lucas Taylor for his defense but he fouled out in 19 minutes and hasn’t found his stroke yet as a shooter.
- Jyare Davis had a couple of nice plays with Lampkin, as he always does but otherwise did little, 1 point and 2 rebounds in 17 minutes. This was a guy who went 22/12 vs. LeMoyne.
- We have now missed 50 of our 67 three point attempts, (25.4% success rate). With a ‘normal’ percentage, we would have won all these games comfortably. I haven’t seen the “inside out” game I was hoping for: guys who pass or drive the ball inside and it comes back out to an open shooter already squared to the basket.
- We are now 49 for 77 from the line, (63.6%), another factor that removed the saddle from the horse in this three game ride. Our defense needs a lot of work but that obscures our offensive problems. We are leaving 10-15 points off the scoreboard in each game.
