Using the some of the top teams, I compared the PF and FT per game from this year with the same amount of games from last year. Here are some of the data .

SU (2 games)
13/14 84 PF 1.05 PF/min 98 FT 1.23 FT/min(Cornell game wasn't strict)
12/13 74 PF 0.93 PF/min 101 FT 1.26 FT/min

Kentucky (3 games)
13/14 137 PF 1.14 PF/min 175 FT 1.46 FT/min
12/13 100 PF 0.83 PF/min 109 FT 0.91 FT/min

Duke (2 games)
13/14 97 PF 1.21 PF/min 120 FT 1.5 FT/min
12/13 77 PF 0.96 PF/min 83 FT 1.04 FT/min

Kansas (2 games)
13/14 111 PF 1.39 PF/min 135 FT 1.69 FT/min
12/13 70 PF 0.88 PF/min 83 FT 1.04 FT/min

MSU(2 games)
13/14 67 PF 0.84 PF/min 53 FT 0.66 FT/min (1st game not strict)
12/13 59 PF 0.74 PF/min 61 FT 0.76 FT/min

Louisville (2 games)
13/14 73 PF 0.91 PF/min 64 FT 0.8 Ft/min (Both games were not strict)
12/13 78 PF 0.98 PF/min 90 FT 1.12 Ft/min

Ohio State (2 games)
13/14 93 PF 1.16 PF/min 109 FT 1.36 FT/min
12/13 65 PF 0.81 PF/min 69 Ft 0.86 FT/min

Marquette (2 games)
13/14 105 PF 1.31 PF/min 131 FT 1.64 FT/min
12/13 74 PF 0.93 PF/min 84 Ft 1.05 FT/min

Wisc (2 games)
13/14 86 PF 1.08 PF/min 84 FT 1.05 FT/min
12/13 60 PF 0.75 PF/min 63 Ft 0.79 FT/min

What I found out was using the top 15-20 teams there was on the average around a 30% increase in PF and FT from last year.

"Daddy, what is this game called?"

"Well, son, it used to be called Basketball, but now we call it Double Bonus. The object is to have your opponent lightly touch you so that you can shoot what are called free throws. The team that makes the most free throws wins."

It will get better in that respect and should also help eliminate some of the more aggrevating physical grabbing, bumping and holding that has been going on.

I think it will get better as well but considering the college game is only 8 minutes shorter than the NBA I have to think that moving to six fouls would be wise as well. Additionally eliminating the single bonus and just shooting two at the 10 foul mark as well. I think that aligns the rules ( which are much similar to NBA) and the effect that has won't be as dramatic.

Looks to me like the 2-3 zone has kept our numbers fairly the same. All the dribble-drive, man-to-man teams seem to be experiencing a considerable increase in foul activity.

2-3 > M2M

Paging, igor...clean up in aisle 2-3.

The stat I found most impressive is Kansas - 111 fouls in 2 games?!? That's just...I don't know. I don't even have a word for it. 55.5 fouls per game. Wow, wow.

Wait a minute, I think you might be looking at the total fouls for both games. ESPN's box scores show KU with 27 fouls in their first game against Louisiana-Monroe and 24 fouls in last night's game against Duke. However, the total fouls called in both games was 111. If KU was averaging 55.5 fouls per game, they'd be fouling out a heck of a lot of players.

I should have said "Kansas games." I understand the stat is for total fouls in the game between the 2 teams. Fouling out 11 guys would really get them pretty deep into their bench though!

What's shocking to me is that Pitt has only been called for 34 fouls in their first two games. I would have expected it to be somewhere north of 80 or 90 fouls...bwahahaha.

The stats are total fouls per game by both teams. I wanted to show that not just one team was affected by the change but the entire game has. Teams that were considered the less physical(Duke,Wisconsin) had the same results as the more physical teams (Marquette, Kentucky).

Zone vs Man to Man
- Eastern Michigan (R Murphy) plays mainly zone
- Georgetown plays man and slow ball offense
- Florida/Michigan pressure the ball on defense

E Michigan(2 games)
13/14 89 PF 1.11 PF/min 96 FT 1.2 FT/min
12/13 66 PF .83 PF/min 67 FT .84 FT/min

Georgetown (1 game)
13/14 59 PF 1.48 PF/min 74 FT 1.85 FT/min
12/13 32 PF .80 PF/min 34 FT .85 FT/min

Florida (2 games)
13/14 71 PF .89 PF/min 78 FT .98 FT/min
12/13 61 PF .76 PF/min 74 FT .93 FT/min

Michigan (2 games)
13/14 63 PF .79 PF/min 82 FT 1.03 FT/min
12/13 50 PF .63 PF/min 53 FT .66 FT/min

Thank god for the rules. Duke 29 fouls. Never have seen that before.
