Telling of my brain but shouldn't 'Cuse be listed ahead of Louisville based on most recent appearance? Looks like they did that as the "tiebreaker" for the 2/4 spots.

The NCAA tournament started in 1939.

If you can make 3 Sweet Sixteens a decade, and keep at that pace for the 8 decades+ the NCAA tournament has been being played, you can get to 24 Sweet Sixteens and get into the Top 6 programs in the country.

There are no Johnny-Come-Latelys at the top of this list. These are the programs that have been very good for a very long time.

I think they went alphabetically. Using University of California - Los Angeles and University of North Carolina.

And we’re tied with several other schools, including Villanova and Arkansas, for the 11th most Final Four appearances with 6 total. Hopefully we can get our 7th this season and move into sole possession! Indiana and Michigan are the schools just ahead of us with 8 total.
