Here are the combined stats from the first two meetings with Pitt:
SYRACUSE
DaJuan Coleman: 40M 4 for 7 from the field 2 for 6 from the line for 10 points, 10 rebounds 3 blocks 2 steals, 2 turnovers. That’s a pretty good full game but he committed 9 fouls so he didn’t get a full game.
Tyler Roberson: 59M 7 for 13 from the field for 15 points, 11 rebounds 2 assists 3 blocks 1 steal, 1 turnover, 4 fouls. That’s pretty good but almost all of it was in the first game, (all 15 points and 7 of 11 rebounds.)
Tyler Lydon: 61M 9 of 15 from the field, including 4 of 9 from the arc and 4 of 5 from the line for 26 points, 1 rebound, 3 assists, 1 block, 2 steals, 3 turnovers, 6 fouls. That’s good scoring but basically no rebounding at all. And 21 of the 26 points were in the second game.
Malachi Richardson: 69M 5 for 17 from the field 1 for 10 from the arc, 16 points, 2 rebounds, 1 block 2 steals, 3 turnovers, 4 fouls. Obviously, Mal needs to shoot much better. But he could also contribute more on the boards.
Michael Gbinije: 77M 8 for 22 from the field, 3 of 9 from the arc, 5 of 10 from the line. 24 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, 6 turnvoers, 7 fouls. Pitt makes Mike work for his points. He’s got to make them pay from the line.
Trevor Cooney: 74M 4 of 17 from the field, 4 of 12 from the arc, 6 of 8 from the line, 18 points, 6 rebounds. 2 assists, 2 steals, 2 turnovers, 5 fouls. Obviously he’s got to shoot better. But his 0 for 5 from two point range is a lot worse than 4 for 12 from three point range. And he got 15 of his 18 points in the first game. He could also get more assists. If they are guarding him so close, somebody must get open.
Franklin Howard: 19M 2 for 5 from the field with no three point or free throw attempts. 4 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 turnover, 1 foul. If Frank has to be a factor we’ll probably be in the NIT.
Chinoso Obokoh played 1 minute and Kaleb Joseph not at all.
PITTSBURGH
Rafael Maia had 2 points 8 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 blocks, 1 steal, 2 turnovers, 0 fouls in 15 minutes.
He’s a nominal starter at center.
Jamel Artis had 39 points, 20 rebounds, 12 assists, 0 blocks, 2 steals, 6 turnovers and 3 fouls in 65 minutes. He turns into Tim Duncan against us.
Michael Young had 23 points, 15 rebounds, 1 assists, 1 block, 0 steals, 6 turnovers and 3 fouls in 68 minutes.
James Robinson had 21 points, 3 rebounds, 9 assists, 1 blocks, 1 steals, 4 turnovers and 6 fouls in 66 minutes.
Sterling Smith had 3 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 0 blocks, 0 steals, 1 turnovers and 2 fouls in 34 minutes. He started the first game, but not the second.
Chris Jones had 15 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 0 blocks, 1 steals, 1 turnovers and 7 fouls in 49 minutes. He started the second game.
Sheldon Jeter had 18 points, 12 rebounds, 1 assists, 1 blocks, 2 steals, 1 turnover and 6 fouls in 42 minutes. He’s their best guy off the bench.
Ryan Luther had 6 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 0 blocks, 1 steal, 2 turnovers and 1 foul in 19 minutes. He didn’t play in the first game.
Cameron Johnson had 9 points, 3 rebound,1 assist, 0 blocks, 0 steals, 0 turnovers and 2 fouls in 25 minutes.
Nobody else played a total of 10 mitnues in the two games.
If we can hit the boards, shoot better and prevent Atris from going off by keeping him out of the top of the key, we can beat this team.
