the struggles by Dino and his squad are giving the hoop team a great opportunity to reclaim their crown as the school's PROGRAM.

People were already dying to jump in and embrace Red and this team due to JB fatigue, and Dino's failures are only further enhancing that opportunity.

I think we have an exciting winter ahead with a new pulse and energy in the Department that is sorely needed.

in fact, he has the opportunity to go just over .500 and still be the rock star.

I’m a football fan first and foremost, always have been and always will be. Football is in my blood. Last night was the first time in my life I said “I can’t wait for basketball to start”. Looking forward to the exhibition tonight.

I think you have it backwards. The football misery has put him in a situation where he HAS to do well or there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. He needs to get them in the tournament. Absolute bare minimum.

Was this ever in question? Do you think folks across the country think of anything but Mens hoops when SU athletics Is brought up?

There is pretty much nothing in this post I agree with.

What are they going to do, fire him after a 17-14 season? He has a much longer leash than that. He would need to win under 10 games for SU to even consider firing him. And even then, it most likely wouldn't happen.

Maybe the only wailing and gnashing of teeth will be from you? ;)

It’s just so sad. I have football and basketball season tickets and basketball is in my blood. I feel awful for our football team. It is so depleting.

But yes, I will be at the game tonight with bells on.

Just over .500? No- that will put more heat on year 2 by a good margin. Patience is a must however there is a lot of talent on this roster.

In the stretch of 5 bowl seasons in the past 18 years - hoops and then Lax (for those that follow) carried the torch. In the period of hoops and lax struggles football hasn't been able to fill the void despite the fools gold hope the flashes of success created.

No idea what football will be in the next decade but hoops absolutely has a great opportunity to reignite the SU brand and lead the charge for as long as college sports remain some faction of what we know them to be.

Yeah so Red has done everything well to this point and from the sound of it is preparing the team for his desired style. There is certainly a chance for some early success, if everything goes as hoped. That said it could take a little bit for team to mesh, roles to be clear and rotations figured out. Red deserves a little patience coming out as he looks for those elements to be clarified. It could happen quickly or take a few games. I am just excited about seeing some new things, new blood and also see how players have upped their games. The first time in a while I have felt this way about the hoops team.

I didn't say he'd be fired at 17-14. I was saying he HAS to do well to save us footballers from losing our minds. If you're not a football fan, you won't understand.

So long as the vision becomes clear, they play hard, and the talent is being showcased, the likelihood of success is higher and things like margin of victory and coming up short vs some ranked opponents is not a huge issue at all.

Don't care what the tabloids think- Judah is one of the best players in the country and when you start talking about this year's team you have to start there.

A couple of weeks ago, around the time preseason practice was starting, I had a conversation with my dad where we were both saying that due to football being fun, basketball snuck up and we wasn't even on our radar.

Now? Can't wait for the lime wedge of hoops to offset the tequila shot of how football is performing.

Yeah all those years where our attention was only really locked in November through April is coming back it seems. Hopefully not permanently

I mean, I get it. But saying he HAS to make the NCAAT this year is just not accurate.

Full disclosure - I think they will make the tournament.

Very true albeit I will say that to an extent there is future success and recruiting dependencies that would take a hit if we don't make it. It's unfair to a degree but also just the cut throat nature of the sport today.

It would be disappointing as fans even with a more enjoyable product but for the players and recruits I'm not sold on quite so rosy an outlook even if the right things are being said to date.

Football performance has little to do with hoops, I think if anything a good football program enhances the basketball experience. When we were good in football and had packed domes we also had crazy Basketball #s ( 26 or 27 k season tickets. This during the 90s . People often kid when football is bad (including myself ) Well basketball season is coming, but I think overall effect is minimal.

There is nothing to gain from the football team being bad. When I was a kid and became a fan, we were one of the few schools that was good at both. It was a point of pride. Basketball team and Red gain nothing from having a bad football team.

Syracuse basketball and football have been dismal for several years now. We desperately need positive momentum to latch onto. I’m hopeful Red can create that with hoops.
